I am in the process of looking for a new edc. I am looking for something $400.00 or less. I want something with some really good steel. I have been thinking something like CPM-M4, ZDP-189, CPM-D2, CPM-3V, but I am not set on any of those steels. This will be a knife that is used everyday. Something around the size of a Benchmade 710. I am open to any and all suggestions. Thank you for your help.

400 dollar range. Lamberts and Lightfoots are not much more than that.

edited to add: As for production knives in that range I'd pick either a Strider or a Sebenza, depending on which concept you like better.

I don't know how likely you'll be to find one, but if you're looking for something around the size of a Benchmade 710, keep an eye open on ebay or the exchange here for the old M2 version of the 710.

I'd save some money and just get the Spyderco CF Stretch with the FFG ZDP blade. It's a "WOW!" knife and half what you're willing to pay.

But then there really isn't anything bad about the standard 710 D2 if a 710 type knife is what you have in mind about a third what you're willing to pay either . . .

Thank you for the suggestions and am looking into them. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thank you!

I know this is way below your price range but it is a great knife. Great steel, good size blade, very light and durable. Mine takes hard use without any problems.

This is another great EDC and is available in ZDP189 composite or S110V. It is heavier than the Endura.

And at those prices you could get a few if you want.
If you are looking for customs TKC can steer you in the right direction, she gets all the good stuff:thumbup:.

How about a large or small Sebenza? Great knife.

Yes! With a $400 budget and around the same size as a 710 I would definately go for the large Sebenza. It's not going to be flashy, but it will get the job done. What other knives have you had?

IMHO EDCs do not get any better than a s90v Military, large Macarta 21, or a DGG SNG.

I would honestly say to get a Military in any flavor... And see if you need/want anymore knife than it offers. One of the best production knives EVER, and Sal and the gang at Spyderco will take care of you very very well should you ever have a problem.

IMHO if you only own one Spyderco it should be a Mili followed by a ZDP Caly 3. Stretch 2 is awesome, ZDP Lum... awesome, para frickin sweet...

But none match the Mili... Then Caly 3 :D

I must agree with what others have said. The millie is the one sweet EDC and to make it even better it comes in S90V and carbon fiber. For every day use it dosen't get much better, it feels perfect in any grip, easily used while wearing gloves, and when it comes to cutting the S90V only adds to its beastly cutting power. :D

Thanks for the info. I know where I can get a brand new BG42 or CPM-D2 military very reasonable. Any suggestions between those two? Anyone know where to find a S90V? Thanks for the help and I look forward to any more suggestions anyone else may have.

Just to be different I suggest the benchmade 440 opportunist.

oh, and Id go for the bg-42 military.
