Hey there,
I am currently looking for some EDC fixed blades and wondered if anyone could help. I am looking at getting a fixed blade with a blade length of 3.5 to 4 inches (4 is the max I can have to carry concealed with my states knife laws) 4 is preferable. I want something US made for sure and serrations would be nice. I have a couple ideas already but need some other ideas. The Blackhawk MOD Razorback with serrations, a ESEE RC-4 or RC-3, Benchmade Nim Cub ll, TOPS Walk-About, RAT HEST, MOD Elishwitz Phoenix (ya I know, not a fixed blade) benchmade CBK 175, and MOD Scorpion. Those are my ideas so any help would be, well, helpful haha :D

With the types of knives you listed, I would maybe think about moving your post over to the General Thread. Serrations CBK175's are few and far between over in this silly old traditional forum. Of course, we'd love to have ya here and hope you will look around and participate...just think you might get a better and more informed response in the General Forum. Good luck with your search.

A RAT 3 would be a great choice but I also feel if this thread was moved to general or even ESEE sub forum you'd get more help. Good luck in your search.

Seeing as how you posted in the traditional forum, I will give you a traditional answer. If you don't have to have serrations, you might look at what Bob Dozier has to offer. Most of his knives are under 4" and have a kidex horizontal belt sheath that is very unobtrusive. They might cost more than some, but in my opinion they are worth it.

I thank you all for your help. I got a little lost in the forum thanks for the move suggestion, I'll try to figure out how to move it :D

Bark River also has a wide selection of semi to fairly traditional knives that fit your size criteria. Your not gonna find any serrations there though, Mike doesn't believe in them. Darn nice quality knives, worth a look anyway.

Bark River for a less expensive, convex-ground knife.

Bob Dozier for a more expensive, hollow-ground knife. Bob's D2 heat treats are legendary. I have 3 of his knives. They come extremely sharp and they cut longer between sharpenings than anything else I have used.

I can't think of any traditional knives with serrations, unless you count SAK saw teeth, or fishing-knife scalers.

i can only think of one slippie right off; I have a early 80s Case moose that has factory serrations on the spey blade, don't know how many knives had it but it was a factory option for a while... Have seen some trappers with it, don't know what other patterns had it available.

Thanks for your replies. I probably should have specified about the price haha. I would very much like to spend $150 or less. by the way I wasn't able to post my thread elsewhere so I guess here it stays. Thanks for the help

I probably shouldn't chime in at all, as very few of my knives are fixed blades, and I don't own any of the ones on your list, but....

Having recently picked up a Rat Izula, I can vouch for its quality, and looking at the HEST, it sure seems like it would be a great knife for EDC (it has a bottle opener- you gotta love that!) if you're inclined to carry a fixed blade for EDC.

And Bark River really does make a beautiful knives as well.

(1) Welcome to the Traditional community here at BF.com. I hope you enjoy our little neck of the woods :)

(2) There have been some nice knives already mentioned here. But since you mentioned price I don't think you'll ever do much better than an Eddie White hand-made custom # 9 model. The specs you originally gave are spot on plus and then some, minus the serrations. Here are a few examples and are super hard use tough full tang construction with superb hardware and materials quality and heavy duty pouch style sheaths..

Eddie is one of the finest freehand hollow grinders I've ever watched work his craft. His experience and expertise is hard to beat, and he is also a helluva nice fellow to work with.

He also has other models that are also popular including some nice double edged models. No matter what you order you'll not be disappointed.

Best,
Anthony

Moved to General Knife :)

It's easier to make suggestions when we have a better idea of what tasks you have in mind. I have a HEST myself. It is VERY multipurpose and extremely tough. You could use it in wilderness or rural or urban circumstances.

Take a look at Entrek Knives. They have some that meet your requirements. I would suggest the Cobra or Companion. Cobra has a clip point blade and the Companion has a spearpoint blade. Both blades are 4.0" in length.

Well, first off forget the RC4. Its a great blade but if 4 inches is your legal limit that leaves it out as the blade is actually around 4.5 inches. The RC3 at 3.75 inches would be a great option, though.

The Benchmade CBK 175 is a cool knife, and I have always liked push knives, but it is probably less useful than your other options as an EDC, and depending on where you live it may be problematic as in some places double-edged knives and/or push daggers are illegal.

Not really all that familar with the Blackhawk or TOPS stuff, other than the knives from them I have seen always seemed a bit overpriced to me, compared to similar production knives from other high-end makers. YMMV.

Hey thanks for the posts they really help. I may be getting a couple push daggers since they are small, lethal and versitile. thanks again

You might want check out the Swamp Rat Swamp Warden. It's a good size for EDC and being a skeletonized knife, it's light and thin. Just a thought.
