I haven't really given much thought to this, but I notice a lot of time people will post a pic of a traditional knife along with a silver coin or coins. That got me to thinking about when I was a kid, older men would often (at least where I live)carry a coin along with their knife? Seems like a silver dollar. I haven't really seen this in years. It seems like we've replaced the coin with flashlights and such. Anyway, I was wondering the significance of this(I'm guessing a good luck charm)? And feel free to post some more pics of old pocketworn edc knives along with more coins.

As a kid I usually had a Silver Dollar or .50 cent piece in my pocket. Wasn't so much of a luck charm as I didn't carry a wallet at that age. Mostly ended up getting spent on candy or baseball cards :)

I've been carrying this 1880 Morgan silver dollar for almost 20 yrs now. It's my good luck charm I suppose. And when I've got that then I'm never broke right?

I remember my Grandfather carried his "Lucky Penny" (a copper 1930's penny that had been pressed into an aluminum commemorative ring of some kind that said "Keep Me and You'll Never Be Broke" or something like that. It was an advertising sort of thing he'd gotten someplace probably. But he always carried it (he was born in 1907 and I think he carried it for decades). I guess I got it from Grandpa :)

For a year or so I was carrying my 110, but I've been on a bit of a modern kick lately. The coins been the same though, my one year sobriety medallion. God willing, in a couple months it'll be a 2 year.

A lot of times I'll carry my unit coin from my time in the service. When I was in, if you were caught at the bar without your coin you'd have to buy a round. So, I guess it could be called good luck. It definitely follows Arizona's rule that if you didn't have it you'd be broke.

I like placing a coin in the photo simply because it adds a sense of scale. And I think it looks nice.

Thanks again Duane.

My first official job was at a Winn Dixie, and shortly after starting, we had a very eccentric man pay for his groceries entirely in two dollar bills. Several of us exchanged cash of our own to get them. 15 years later, I've had this one with me ever since. Not a coin, but currency at least. ;) Carrying my GEC Workhorse sleeveboard today.

Many coins, like Traditional knives are beautiful, that might be a reason for pairing them and photographing them together.

These get carried whenever I leave the house. Reason? illogical, but worthwhile nevertheless. There is knife-content in this pic, just:D:thumbup:

I have no luck with lucky coins. I always lose them.

I hear you on that. I had a military unit coin from my Sgt. Major that I use to carry all the time. Meant a lot to me as he was a good guy & a great Sgt. Major. Lost it while laying on a blanket watching a 4th of July firework display. It was made even more poignant a few days ago because he passed away. I do still have my unit coin from the Assistant Division Commander.

My maternal grandpa, a farmer and carpenter, carried a metal covered pen knife and a silver dollar every day. Both were so worn smooth that no engraving or lettering or anything was visible, and the edges of the coin were almost sharp (it looked like a mini discus). I guess he just used that old silver dollar as his worry stone. The pen knife was mostly used to clean his pipe.

My granny used to give me silver dollars when I was a kid. I lost most along the way to adulthood but this one was one of the few that survived. I have been carrying it in my change pocket in jeans and slacks since college.

It used to ride solo but now with a child of my own it is essential for me to always have quarters for the candy and gumball machines.

I received the other coin in a giveaway and like to carry it as well.

A long time friend of mine had carried a silver dollar in his pocket since his dad gave it to him in the 40's, it was worn completely smooth. How he kept that coin over the years, without losing it, is a mystery to me. He carried an old Case too, but I don't recall the pattern.

I have a 2 1/2 dollar gold piece that my late grandfather carried since the depression.

I am with you on the madness behind the reasoning. Many people believe that a silver dollar in their pocket is a good luck charm! I am not one of them.

My wife had this coin custom made and gave this to me very early in our marriage little over ten years ago. One side symbolizes safe travels for all the miles I do for my business. And the other side with the angel represents the meaning of my last name. It just stays in my wallet.
