Hello, for those of you who don't know I've actually already posted a thread very similar to this one here. However, I was not specific enough, and have ow revised it. So here it is.

Also, last time, you all gave me knives that YOU had. Knives that you were more biased towards. I don't want the knife that you have because YOU have it and think it's good, I want the proven best on the market. Sorry for putting that rudely, I just got a ton of that the last time.

Okay, now to get to it. I'm looking for an EDC self defense knife. I know how to use a knife, and I want one that's built for self defense. The maximum length in my state is 4 inches, and if possible, that's what I want. Anything shorter isn't as liked. Also, assisted-opening is a MUST. In my state, automatic is illegal, and non-assisted is just plain slow. I want more time having my knife out, not taking it out. Also, I'm not out for blood. The knife is my last resort.

So in the end:

- Preferably 4 inches, nothing much shorter than that
- Assisted-opening is a MUST
- Serrated edge can't hurt
- For self defense

Let me give you a situation. I'm walking late at night (that's what I do with friends on Fridays, sometimes bike) and some sketchy kid blocks our path. Nobody else around. He says for us to give him our wallets. He has two friends, and he threatens us with them. If he tried to fight us for our wallets, I'd take out my monkey's fist. Not my knife. For those that don't know, a monkey's fist is a steel ball wrapped in paracord that you swing. Non-lethal, and completely legal. A good hit, and they're not getting back up. However, lets say for whatever reason that doesn't work out, and one draws a knife. At this point, my friends and I wouldn't draw ours, we'd book it. Better to avoid a possibly lethal fight. If they give chase and corner us, THAT, THAT is when I draw the knife. When I draw this knife, I want it to be BIG, THREATENING, AND LETHAL. However, most importantly, LEGAL. Most importantly, lets say one rushes me with his knife, and I stab his arm or something. I don't want a knife where it'll hurt but he'll keep fighting (doubt he would tho after being stabbed), I want a knife that will inflict as much pain and damage as possible. Remember, last resort. Before any of you come in and say it, yes, I do know how to use a blade. I didn't do lax or football, I did combat sports, and believe it or not, one of them taught weapons. So I know how to properly use one.

Remember, not out for blood, just self-defense with a knife as my last resort.

You want something that can take out 6+ people, and you can do anything you want to them, including run from them? Mace!
I got a ricocheted spray of bear mace, just a light misting toward my face. I could not do a damn thing except tear up, choke, and trip over things. Best idea for self defense.
As far as a knife, a flipper can be just as fast, if not faster than a assist. I have flippers that I can operate much faster than my autos. But if you want assist, maybe Combative Edge. or just go to BladeHQ, and search under spring assisted knives. I don't like assisted, so maybe someone else here can give better ideas for assisted blades.
Knives are cutting tools though. There are tons of better options for self defense now days.

If your in a State where autos are illegal, look at your law makers. Don't use a knife for self defense.

And on a more serious note, at only 15 years old, NO amount of "weapons training" is enough for you to think that it's a good idea to use a 4" pocket knife as a weapon in a fight. You're just as likely to get cut as anyone. Bad, bad, BAD idea!!! o_O

If you're only a kid, I would not carry a knife for self defense. I would just be careful and aware of your surroundings.
I lived in some fairly ghetto neighborhoods as a teenager and at the most all I ever had on me was a 3" blade flea market special or 3" blade belt knife. All knives were carried for utility only.
I was a small 5"6' 110lb, and never had any problems because I know how to avoid bad situations.

In this walking situation I would just start to bike instead, i would also keep a good chain and lock to secure it with.
Obviously with a bike you can ride away but if you get into a situation where you absolutely need a weapon you're lock would work extremely well.
a stout padlock on the end of a chain is very effective for bike security as well as impromptu defense and you wouldn't be in trouble for carrying a deadly weapon.
It's never well received when a teenager is ever carrying an intended weapon, and even worse when they use it because they may not be mature enough to know when force is called for.
It's not going to look good if you use blade on a couple punks who want your allowance.

If you are serious about self defense, find a reputable trainer in your area... preferably one that has programs for law enforcement or other government agencies in your area. They should be able to suggest your knife options, as well as educate you about defense scenarios, situational awareness, and lawful versus unlawful acts.

You might find more discussion in the "practical tactical" sub forum.

Don't get a knife.

Kids like you getting a knives is the reason the're banned or regulated in so many places.

You're going to get hurt or worse yourself, or you end up going to jail for stabbing some kid.

Also a steel ball on a string is very much a lethal weapon are you nuts???

If you're hanging out in an area where you think this scenario is possible at all, hangout somewhere else. Then, to be prepared carry a loud whistle and have 911 easily accessible/speed dial on your cell phone.
