Hi fellow RAT lovers,

I need an EDC knife, and ofcourse it's gonna be a RAT.

But, after weeks of thinking I still can't figure out which one.
I'm doubting between the Izula and RC-3...
All info I could find I allready checked, noted their sizes out, draw them on my desk, measured everything compared to those two drawings etc.
Still not have been able to choose.

My situation:
With allready an RC-5 on order for hikes and real hard use I just need a knife for EDC at my house.
Tasks may be cutting up rope from hay, slicing dog or horse food packages open, cutting up waterhoses, cutting up sail and all other sorts of cutting you need on a farm.
Allready got a buck 110 kinda knife, but want a fixed blade because the folder is just to thin and has a really fragile tip

So, what do you suggest?

I was a little bit more in favor of the RC-3, but wonder if it's not to obtrusive, so I would love to see pictures of RC-3's being worn to someone's belt.

Thanks in advance! :D

If you are going to use it a lot, the RC-3 would be better because it does have scales on it. If you're not going to use it for long periods of time, the Izula might be better.

My Dear Friend,

Either will do the job, but owning both I suggest the RC-3. Experience has taught me that while a large knife will almost always do the job of a smaller one passably well, the vice is not necessarily versa. The RC-3 is small and comfortable enough to keep handy all day, all of the time, but large enough to be comfortable for more aggressive cutting chores.

The RC-3 would be my first choice. But, watch the blade length restriction in your state. Mine is 3.5", but the RC-3 is just a tad over that, measuring from the scales. So I EDC the Izula, when I want a FB. It has handled everything I've needed it for, without issue. It is nice and compact, no issue keeping it on the belt or in the pocket. Just my $0.02...

I use the Izula as my EDC work knife And my RC-3Mil as my EDC outside knife
the izula make a great box cuter

If I was on a farm, it would be the RC 3. In the office environment I work in, I would go with the Izula (we have a 3" limit for EDC at work).

Raindog, I live in the Netherlands, so no state restrictions or what so ever, as long as you don't carry it in public. ;)

I was just browsing on some RC-3's, and saw a RC-3 Mil.
Am I right if I say the only difference is the rounded pommel instead of the standard ''pointy'' pommel and the different color?
I like the RC-3 Mil color alot, I never have been fond of the scale colors on the standard RC-3.

Thanks for your input for so far!

Anyone got some pics of them carrying their RC-3's on their belts?

I carry a RC3 whenever I'm around on my property. It's a very useful little critter. However, I went to the grocery store the other day and forgot that I had it on my side. A lady in the store saw it a freaked out. The manager looked at her and said something to the extent of, "Ma'am we are in the south." :)

I'd like to see these too.

Haha! Nice little story.

For me, my one and only RAT rides along with me every day in my EDC bag. On weekends, it sees plenty of pocket time too for chores around the house, kitchen and yard. What is this awesome do-it-all RAT you ask? Why, my RC-3 of course!

Get either, in my opinion. Because sooner or later, you will have to have both of them ;)

Oops! Didn't notice the Netherlands part. Anyhoo, I'd definitely go for the RC-3 in your case. I carry mine on the belt with their boot clip attachment. Rides fine, nice and tight unlike the teklok. You can even carry it IWB, although that's a lot less comfortable when considering the presence of "love handles". Don't have any pics, but I can try and post some later.

The good thing is, you cant go wrong anyway you chose!!! I like the -3 , but love the -4. I used to carry the -3 (which is thin but its strong for a thin knife). Once I used the -4, I knew it was for me. Its thicker, not much longer than the -3, its a great cutter and its strong as hell also. Small chores, filleting a fish, fiddlin wood or something like that I would use my Izula. I always carry a -4 and an Izula. What ever you chose, you will be happy because theyre all great tools.

Hi,

Thanks y'all for your input.
It's gonna be the RC-3 based on the functionality and it''s gonna be the MIL version based on the looks.
Still wonder, what are the exact differences between the ''MIL'' and the regular one?
Is it just a different handle material and other shape of the pommel or is there more?

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Good choice on the RC-3MIL - you'll love it!

I actually just carry mine in my back pocket in its sheath on weekends - super simple and honestly dont even notice it.

I think the other differences with the mil is the color combo, "RC-3MIL" in place of "RC-3," and it has no liners.

ENJOY!
