EDC Knife

I'm getting a new EDC folder. I am choosing betwixt Emerson Commander and Al Mar SERE 2000.
Does anybody have any other suggestions in a similar price range?

If EDC means general usage with self defense as a last resort I would go with the Sere. I believe it's blade shape to be much more useful than the Commander. I lost my fascination with recurve blades a long time ago.

For an alternative I always suggest the Spyderco Military, a light, easily carried magnificent knife. If you could get a few more bucks together the new titanium frame lock looks really exciting.

EKI knives are mostly for self defense according to many people. I would get a Military or just wait a bit longer for the Paramilitary 2.

Love 'em both!

I just picked up a Fallkniven PXL off the forum, all the reviewers in cyber world rave about it, same price range.

My Kel Tec P11 is only for self defense.
The knife will be used for opening packages, cutting ropes and ties, self protection, opening bags... So yes, it will be used as a weapon, but I need it to do other things too.
Spyderco Military is great, but I want a more "beefy" knife, like the Al Mar SERE 2000 is.

The AL Mar SERE 2000 is a great knife. It's the first "good" knife I owned. I still carry it and love the discreet deep pocket clip. The action is very sweet. That said Emersons are way more than just SD knives. The Commander would be a good choice if you like recurve blades but I prefer some like the CQC7 or CQC8 for an EDC choice.
