Hey guys,

I was wondering what a good EDC knife with a carbide glass breaker (or any type of glass breaker) on it. MY budget is about $200. I had a SOG Trident Elite, but I didn't like it all that much. I am looking at an ESEE 3, seems promising.

Thanks!

I've been looking for one of these which suits my tastes as well. Hard to find one with a ~4" blade and a strong lock.

Benchmade contego,,, pretty big though for edc
The triage is a more manageable size,, and also has a strap cutter

Glass breakers tend not to go well with EDC knives, and are often done poorly. There are a few good ones, but they are the exception.

What are your other requirements for the knife? any legal requirements?

spyderco assist is one to look at, as is the Vic rescue.

Hest Triple Black 3.0 especially with the serrated blade, 3.25 in blade, great glass breaker and though it was thought to be hype, the wire stripper jimping and the hex socket for the bit adapter work.
I do I.T., but occaisionally do construction type installs, you can beat it all day long and it keeps coming back for more...

Benchmade Triage as stated before is a great knife and we have tested the Glass Breaker, worked great!

Check out the DPx hest and heat lines. Ti frame lock with a myriad of steels and most, if not all, will have your carbide glass breaker.

Surprisingly, the M-Tech and Tak-Force knives with a glass breaker and seat belt/strap cutter at the truck stops for $15 to $19.95 have a carbide glass breaker, and a decent blade that comes with even grinds, and is sharp out of the box.
I'm going to presume the blade's heat treat is correct, since cutting open a can of Gov. Surplus pork did not roll the edge or dull the blade. (What can I say? The poltergeist in my truck hid or ate my Marbles camp/utility knife, so I did not have a can opener. Thise Gov. Surplus cans of pork use a rather thick "tin can", too.)

I sometimes carry a Kershaw glassbreaker blur at work. Very good cutter with a carbide breaker integrated. I use at times when helping our in-house glazier replace panes of glass. You can usually find them for $60-$70 at most of the well known cutlery retailers

Wow guys thanks for all of the help!! I am still looking at the ESEE 3, but the Kershaw Blur looks great too, as metsfan has said.

The ESEE 4 is nice, too, but it's a little large for EDC. Also, I'd have to sharpen the pommel with the 4.

Some of the recent folders/models made by LionSteel including DPx Gear, Bastinelli and Pohl Force have a tungsten carbide glass breaker as the clip screw.

Some examples:

  • LionSteel TM1
  • Bastinelli Creations RED
  • DPx Gear HEAT/F
  • DPx Gear HEST/F
  • Pohl Force EOD Mike Three

I'll 2nd that the Blur is definitely a great EDC with a glass breaker model available.

I also really like my Kizlyar Supreme Ute right now as well, which along with a glass breaker also has a fold out bottle opener/mini-pry incorporated. Makes it a very convenient EDC.

I like my Emerson's and Spyderco's. A lot.
But someone talked me into a Bastinelli RED folder and, over the last several months, it's kicked my Manix 2 and CQC-7 out of my pocket. It is a frame lock & has a tungsten carbide glass breaker as the clip screw. I have larger hands and prefer heftier handles on my folders -- but the RED folder has outstanding ergos that make it easy for me to grip, despite its diminutive size.
