I've been doing a lot of Polina around looking for a new EDC flashlight. I'm looking for I'v that uses 2 AAA batteries, has an IPX-7 or better water rating rad doesn't have a bunch of settings (ideally just a full bright and a "moonlight" dim setting). Does such a unicorn exist?

I have a nice little 1X AAA Olight i3S EOS . It's twisty with just hi , med and moon light . Has accidentally gone thru the washer and dryer twice with no damage . Runs fine on rechargeable .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have an inexpensive 100 lumen Maglite 2xAAA I picked up at a local big box hardware store (can't remember if it was HD, Lowe's, or Menards) that I stow in my mini tool bag. It was cheap, it works fine, and according to Maglite it is IPX7 rated - https://maglite.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/MAGLITE_CATALOG_1215B.pdf

However, my EDC is an Eagletac Clicky single AA.

Here are some options:

Eageltac: http://eagletac.com/html/pn20a2/specs.html

Nitecore: https://flashlight.nitecore.com/product/mt06md

Fenix: https://www.fenixlighting.com/product/fenix-ld05-v2-edc-penlight-with-uv-light/

I don't have experience with Streamlight, but they have a good reputation: https://www.streamlight.com/docs/default-source/data-sheet/protac2aaa_datasheet.pdf?sfvrsn=4

I threw my Streamlight Protac 2l-x in my pocket a few days ago. It may be a little large for pocket carry, but it hasn't really gotten in the way yet. I usually carry a single AA Protac, but it was dead and i didn't have any AAs charged so i grabbed the 2l-x.

Streamlight offers solid construction for good money. I like the programmable settings as well. I don't like strobe and having the option to get rid of it is nice. I use the low/mid/high setting because low is all I need for 99% of flashlight use.

I have a Maratac inspection light and it's been nice. 3 levels of light on that one.

I like the streamlights. Stylus pro in perticular. You can get them in AAA or AA.

I can't say enough about Fenix ... they have had much better run times and beams than any streamlights I've owned ... and are far less expensive than many other options ... not sure how small you want to but I wouldn't go any smaller than 1xAA and even the 2xAA or 1x18650 rechargables are what my EDC lights are.

Surefire still makes great lights and I own some but other than those two and a couple Malkoff lights I got rid of everything else.

The Eneloop Pro gives you a bit more power but they are rated for 500 charges (which even if used frequently would last years ...

the regular Eneloops are rated 2100 charges but with slightly less power ...

both they are as good as any rechargable AA and better than most.

IMO , your batteries are just as important as the light . Especially in the very bright , high drain models , a top rated, high capacity Li-ion is worth the price .

The highest capacity Sony Eneloops are great for AA . A quality charger is necessary to get the most out of your batteries .:thumbsup:

Massdrop AAA. Recommend using Eneloops.
I WANTED to buy and carry this, but too many updated reviews about failure and broken mechanisms after little to medium use steered me away. Have you had yours long?
