I have been searching for a small fixed blade for some time. I mostly have Busse knives but I prefer more of a front finger guard than they have on their smaller knives. Just one of my "things". ;)

I have been eyeing Fehrman's for a while now and I am about to pull the trigger on their Thru Hiker but wanted to get some input. It has a nice front/finger guard I like. Can those of you that have this knife, or have used it, give me you opinion on it.

If there are any other EDC knives (5"-8" OAL) with either a deep choil or a beefy front guard please feel free to mention them here. I'm strictly looking for a user here. I am open to a variety of price ranges here but do not want to go over $200 at the moment. As long as it has a decent steel that will hold a decent edge I am interested. Thanks guys. :)

The Thru Hiker has two secure grips: index finger behind that guard, and index finger in the choil in front of the guard. The second gives you great fine control of the tip.

The only possible problem with it is the short handle. If you have really large hands, it could be too short for you. My hands aren't small and the handle feels a bit strange, but I get a secure grip anyway. The butt tucks in between my ring and little fingers. When I'm using it, I don't notice any problem.

You could look at some of Brian Wagner's blades--none of 'em seem to have a front forefinger choil, but the guard/grip is definitely secure.
