Hope you guys have time to answer this, but i'll try and keep it short.

I'm looking for a good EDC/tactical knife. But more on the EDC side rather than tactical.

I already own the spyderco tenacious and i am EDCing it. I want another EDC knife that is a bit more sleek and light.
My Options = A) Blade tech - Ganyana Light (orange)
B) Kershaw - Skyline (same price)

SKYLINE = http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.newgraham.com/images/ks1760.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.newgraham.com/detail.aspx%3FID%3D45200&h=272&w=400&sz=22&hl=en&start=4&um=1&usg=__Gug1y5MhkVETCN0Kz_jAKkLWuII=&tbnid=TisiU6hnUECVXM:&tbnh=84&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dkershaw%2Bskyline%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN

Ganyana Lite = http://www.blade-tech.com/GANYANA-LITE-PLAIN-EDGE-ORANGE-pr-1105.html

I don't know which is a better deal? The skyline is a bigger knife and has some tactical capabilities. But the Ganyana has some great EDC capabilities.

Which would you recomend for a city person to EDC.
Which is a better deal for the money?
Which has better materials?

Thanks so much.

If you dig the Spyderco, then maybe going with a Delica would be good for you. I bought a tenacious for my brother, but ended up going with an Endura myself. Endura has a longer blade, but overall rides thinner in the pocket for me. Don't get me wrong, it is a hunker of a knife, the delica would be a good option for minimal space. The Native is pretty popular as well, and not as big as I thought it would be. But I would not call it sleek.

good suggestion, but thats not one of the options. its too expensive for me , especially near christmas.

I just got a Damascaus Skyline, and while it's not a knife for me, it is a well made knife:thumbup:. Lockup is solid, G10 scales, and it's nice and light. I never handled a Blade Teck, but popular opinion seems to rate Blade Tech's very high on the list of quality production knives. My question would be about the country of origin with the Ganyana. My money would go with the USA made knife. If the Ganyana is in fact made in the USA..those orange scales might interest me enough to buy one. Good luck with what ever you choose.

DIFFICULT choice :D

Two very nice knives. I've got that niche covered myself, but if I were looking for a good city EDC, the Ganyana would do it. I happen to think it's a very sweet knife. I'd even go for the combo edge for versatility.

Not knocking the Skyline. It's got classic lines. In fact, it looks a lot like the old Gerber Bolt Action.

I have a regular Skyline and Damascus Skyline. They are well-made, smooth opening, and aesthetically appealing. While I prefer more spendy knives like the Delica, for example, I carry the regular Skyline often. If you go that route, I bet you will be happy with it. Check ebay for the best prices (probably).

If you're in a hurry to get the knife, you might want to go with the Skyline. I just ordered a Ganyana Lite from Blade-tech but they won't be available until next year. Both are great knives, but a store clerk and myself had a hard time trying to open the Skyline with both the flipper and the blade stop (thumb studs). We tried 3 different ones and we still couldn't get them to open all the way.:(

I'd say stick with the skyline-- you have the best warranty in the business if something does go wrong, and it's also made in the USA.

Wunderbar, I think somebody posted a Youtube video How-to on the skyline. You have to first build up pressure by pushing towards the pivot on the flipper, and then letting it fly down the ramp.

Skyline!

I love my Skyline!

-Excellent fit and finish.

-Lightweight but sturdy.

-Amazing low price for a quality USA made knife.

-Does not scare non knife people. Can be opened slowly if necessary.

-The flipper works PERFECT (as in 100% reliable) once you get used to it and the knife "breaks in". The thumbstuds will flick it open at light speed as well.

Exactly. After the break in period, it opens fast, reliable and the 13C26
steel takes a wicked edge. Damn fine knife for the money.

I don't have any experience with the Blade-tech (although they look kinda interesting). I am very impressed with the Skyline, the quality seems to be above what I would expect in this price range, and I've really become a fan of G10 in knives.

As for the thin blade, that is, for the most part, a plus for me, my knives don't see a whole lot of heavy use in daily carry as I'm confined to the city. The thin blade is very easy to re-profile/put a wicked edge on and is also pretty light. Also adding to the lightweight properties of this knife is the G10 frame. Some might rue the lack of steel liners, but to me the structure of this knife seems rock solid.

Not sure about edge retention as I have not had to resharpen mine yet, but it has been called on to do some decent cutting, so that in and of itself might be a good sign.

I agree that once the knife is broken in (a little rem oil doesn't hurt), the blade comes out quickly and reliably every time with the "flipper".

I would check Ebay, as one of the other posters said, I got mine for $25 + shipping, not bad for an excellent knife that has become my EDC.

I would go for the Skyline, I adore mine.

It's featherlight, opens like a laser, great geometry for EDC stuff, flipper and thumbstuds take practice but you can get this knife to just fly open. And I agree it's not bad for non-knife people. Really a fantastic knife for the money, just get one.

I finally bought the Ontario Sp1 fixed blade

and the Sog flash 1.

couldnt beat 1.4 oz.

but thanks everyone. we all learned somethiong.

I found a Ganyana Lite! Nice knife. Much better than the Skyline IMO. I have the one with a black handle. I'd say go with the Ganyana Lite. I was not too impressed with the Skyline. Hard to open and the flipper had to be worked in. The Skyline would be the good choice for customizing. I see a lot of potential there.
