I plan on ordering an EDC pretty soon and i hope you guys can help me decide which is the best variant for my needs. I have no experience of the blade steel options as treated by Camillus. I'm bored with the super-hard difficult-to-sharpen blade steels and would like to try one which is easy to sharpen and takes a good edge, corrosion resistance is a factor. So far i'm leaning towards the 420hc or old style 154cm versions, as these are more readily available to me and i'm running a bit short on knives at the moment.
I appreciate any advise you guys give,
Have a good day :)

420HC is a little better on those criteria. However, most knife knuts would accept a little trade-off in those factors for the greater edge retention of the 154CM option, unless it is for use in and around salt water, where stainlessness is really important.

If it's the 420HC version you would like to get, better act now. Camillus has phased out the 420HC version, and it was replaced by the Enhanced EDC.

Dexter,
Thanks for the warning, can you tell me when the 420HC version was replaced? Thanks for the replies. :)

Mathew,

the 154CM enhanced EDC version was / is just being phased in - if you really want one of the 420HC versions (as posted this would just make sense for salty environment - rain in Ireland doesn´t count ;-) I think dealers with less turnaround should still carry the "old" and should be happy to get rid of it as most people would prefer the new.

Old style: 220 / 221 (plain / serrate)

New Style: 2201 / 2211 (plain / serrated)

Discountknives seems to still carry the old one at 43.75

Mathew - it is my understanding they are in the process of phasing it out right now. Essentially, the Enhanced EDC offers improved performance and looks for the same price that you can get the 420HC version. You might want to hit all the popular Internet dealers and ask if they still have the original version in stock. If you would like some suggestions, feel free to email me at knifenut@triad.rr.com and I'll get you off to a good start.

Dexter Ewing,
Thanks very much for the help, i've decided to wait until the enhanced and talonite EDC's make it to the dealers here, i'm sure they will have the 420HC version still available as it usually takes knives that come out new in the states several months to show up here.

Klaus,
lmao, i'm looking at a day's worth of irish rain right now.

Hmmm, if ya wanted to pony up the cash, the talonite version would be pretty darned corrosion resistant and easy to sharpen... :D

Mathew - you're welcome. As Nobody said, Talonite is definitely worth it. It resharpens easily with a Spyderco 204 or anything with diamonds. Performance is superb! It offers performance of high performance steels with the ease of maintenance as lower grade steels.

Hmm yeah, the talonite version looks pretty nice too :D i think i'm gonna wait for those. I just ordered a Spydie Native to quench my knife thirst in the meantime. Thanks guys you've been very helpful :)
