EDC Pouch Recommendations?

Ok guys, I liked Krept's review of the NewSun EDC pouch. I'm looking for something similar, but it doesn't quite fit the bill.

Here's what's in my EDC carriage daily:

- velcro-closure standard wallet
- OC
- cellular (Nokia 5160)
- Pager (motoroloa 2-way)
- EDC Pen (similar to the Rotring)
- Keys + Keyfob with house security fob
- Separate keys + keyfob with housekeys, car keys, etc.
- Work badge (electronic credit card-like card)
- pocket change
- red handkerchief (makeshift smoke filter, turniquet, bandage, etc.)

Up to now, I've been wearing an Eagle Creek fanny pack ( http://www.eaglecreek.com/travel_accessories/40163.html )in the front near my gut. This works pretty well, I mostly like it (2 zippered pouches are secure, buckle for belt is on hip rather than in back so it's harder to unbuckle by a bad guy, etc.), but there's a few downsides:

- It flops when I run
- It puts my cellphone and pager next to my gut (they're always transmitting, so I may be at risk of overexposure to RF)
- It's in the way of my Smartcarry :)
- The zippers are a pain to deal with when one-handed
- OC is not terribly accessible in a hurry
- It's kind of bulky

The idea of the NewSun belt-carried EDC pouch is close to what I think would work well, but it's belt-mounted, so wearing a shirt that's not tucked in would be in the way. It's also got some dork-factor, and the fanny pack worn in front seems less dorky to me for some reason :)

Anyone got any ideas?

I bought a Mission wallet from BladeArt. It's in my right front jeans pocket right now, with a 3" folder, Fisher bullet pen, ARC AAA light, phone card, business cards, and a couple med packets with tylenol, etc. It gives me a simple way to carry alot of things that I use every day.

I use a Rhinoskin RhinoPak 2000 SportPak to carry my PDA, my Blackberry, my cellphone, and the keys and cards. Had to modify it a bit to seperate the stuff, but it's highly flexible. They make a model called the 3000, that's larger and holds more stuff.

I have been searching as well. I have found a few "messenger bags" for the weekend type carry. Not really that professional, but it would be perfect for the weekend (plus I have kids and the stuff that goes with the extra little ones) and this bag looks good.

I cannot remember the name, but I found it on line on some "bag" web-site and it is about $19.00, slings over one shoulder (like a 1/2 backpack) and looks plenty big without looking like an ALICE pack!

Good luck in your search and I will look forward to hearing your answer!

It depends on your environment and the style of clothes you need to wear, but you are probably not going to be able to reduce the dork factor much with any sort of belt pouch, fanny pack or man purse.

I recommend you clip onto your belt the following: Phone, pager, ID. If possible, get a phone that functions as a pager also and delete the pager. The rest you should carry in your pockets. You may be carrying too many keys for comfortable pocket carry, so reduce the load there. Delete the fobs and just carry keys that you really use daily and leave the rest in your glovebox or desk. I am down to carrying 2 keys plus my work ID badge that opens doors at work.

Most OC canisters do not carry well in a pocket except for the ASP Key Defender, which you might consider getting. Or maybe OC that looks like a pager and clips to a belt. If you can't manage that in your pockets, get a pair of Dockers Mobile Pants with hidden cargo pockets. Save your fanny pack for the beach or hiking.

Yeah, major dork factor with waistpacks.

I have a small pack, about 7x6x3", and I thread the strap through the belt loops on only the left side, so it hangs low on the right hip/thigh. A little less dorky, but it bounces around if you run a lot. I carry this pack when I go on trips.

Attached is a crappy picture of the pack along with an E2e, AFCK, Nokia 8260.

"Dork Factor"?? Whatever are you fellas talking
about?? What are you guys fashion models?? :D

I've carried a belt pouch for over 30 years since
that fuss in S.E. Asia back when. If anybody wants
to call me dorky then they haven't paid their dues
yet. I tired of walking around with all that sh!t
in my pockets anyway. As far as cell phones etc.
who the hell needs to have that ball & chain to
get in the way of personal movement and freedom.:grumpy:

So to those who have the guts to dress the way
they need /want to .....go for it . Belt pouch
and all:cool:

Oh, that hurts. I've carried one for years. I can't see how anyone can get along without one.

I used to schlep everything around in a small backpack. It worked fine, but sometimes both looked "over the top", and was too big (small stuff kept getting lost in the bottom).

For now, I've been using a Timbuk2 messenger bag, often seen on campuses and built specifically for bicycling commuters and messengers. It's unobtrusive enough, is smaller and lighter, and I'm more apt to quickly find what I'm looking for. The SpecOps Pack Rat organizer would probably add more organization, but also bulk. I'm still on the fence. Maybe that NewSun pouch would be a good compromise.

Keep in mind that I don't work in a "briefcase" environment, don't carry or use a laptop, cell phone, PDA, MP3 player, or pager. I usually carry snacks, a bottle of water, a book and a couple magazines, lunch, a Surefire M2 with an SC-1, my old rangefinder Canon (you never know what might happen or you might see), and a few other toys or gadgets, depending on what kind of stuff I'm up to.

Dorky or not the Eagle Creek Guide Bag or Vagabond are great daily carry! They make a great light duty bug out bag and you can have everything on ya. They just look like a small vertical briefcase. OR, if ya really want it all, be like Dex and get a BladeArt vest . . . you'll ALWAYS have at least a half dozen blades on ya!;) :p ;)

When I do use a belt pouch, it is the Eagle Creek Get Out Pouch. I like them so much that I bought two, just in case the company stops making them. I tend to do that when I find something that I like.

This pouch is flat and rides high on the belt, so it is unobtrusive. It will not hold bulky items like your OC or cell phone, but might help organize your smaller items. I suspect that you could fit your pen, keys, badge, and change in one comfortably. You could probably also fit your pager, if it is fairly small.

Gotta agree with stjames and I wonder why something like Filson wasn't mentioned before. All here don't hesitate to spend high dollars for knives, flashlights, watches and pens, but seem to be thinking in terms of $22 bike messenger bags. I've had a Filson Field Bag for three or four years and, even though I sometimes carry a small bag from The Walking Co. or a huge Domke Bureau Chief Satchel, I use the Filson most every day. It's indestructible and worth every penny.

Filson.....now there's class:D

I know what you mean by big buck's for the toys
and pennies for something to carry them in:rolleyes:

Go figure:(

Me too. Put lots of it on a survival keychain that now resides in my coat pocket.
