Sooo,
I'm sure many of you have been through this... looking for the perfect EDC.
I 'm not a knife superstar, so I don't know all the ins and outs, but I'm looking for a EDC for general utility, outdoor hiking-type tasks, field service when deployed (USAF) and backup SD.
I carried a Spyderco Endura Clipit for several years, going through a couple of knives and serving all my needs at home and in the field, jumpmastering, whatever. But when I found out about liner locks, I preferred that to the lockback, plus I wanted to get away from the serrated edge.
So, I bought a little Buck one-hander with a liner lock, and carried it for a year but I never liked the tip-down carry, and I missed the larger handle of the Spyderco.
Last fall I decided to upgrade my knives and bought a Ritter mini-RSK and a used Busse Desert Anorexic Badger Attack. Now, I've EDC'd the mini-RSK since October and I really like it. I love the blade shape and the lock. But, I can only get three fingers on it, so I'd like something a little bigger (Endura-sized) when I leave the office.
I wanted to augment with a fixed blade for tougher tasks, so I got the DABA. It's sweet, but way too big for me to EDC.
So, now I'm debating with going for the larger M2 RSK and staying with a folder, or, what I really want, is to get a smaller fixed blade for EDC. Something on the order of a Busse Active Duty: 3.5 inch blade, 7.5 inch overall length, drop point style blade, kydex sheath set up for cross-draw.
So, the primary suspects are:
1. Crawford Kasper Neck Knife that I might have G-10 scales added to.
2. Chax Knives Stinger in D2 at 3.5 inch blade and 7.5 inch OAL.
2. DMK triant modified to a drop point or Shidobu Warrior with G-10 scales instead of cord-wrapped
3. Dozier Agent
4. Bud Nealy AT or the new blade that just went through a passaround.
I'm trying to keep it capped at $200-250 or so, since I think I would like to turn in the DABA for one of these other knives.
Opinions? What do you think about these choices? Let me benefit from your wisdom...
Thanks,
B
