Howdy everyone, I'm a newbie on bladeforums (1st post right here!). I'm seriously considering the Camillus EDC for my EDC. My questions are:

1) Blade material preference. Is D2 that much better than 154CM? Price is not that much of a concern ($30).

2) Would you recommend this as an EDC? The other folders I'm considering are the BM 555 (mini-griptilian), Spyderco calpso Jr.

What I'm looking for is a 3" bladed knife (so that minimal carry issues apply), allowing one handed opening, a good blade, and a nice lock mechanism. Also I prefer basic black, as it's less showy than silver peeking out of a pocket. Thus my only flaw with the EDC. If I got it I might get it boron carbide coated at some point. Oh, and Gator, what's the process for that??

Other knives I've considered are the BM 705/770 (grip too tiny), Emerson CQC7a mini (grip chunky/fat), a variety of CKRT - ?blade steel and some with tough to operate liners, Spyderco Navigator (VERY pretty anodizing, ergonomic as heck, but a marginal blade length)

All folders have flaws, just have to figure out what's the most important issues.... :P
Thanks everyone!!!

Cedric

The most important issue for any EDC is, "How well does it cut?". The Camillus EDC cuts like crazy. The heavily recurved edge makes the EDC cut like a knife much larger thna its size.

Oh yah. I personally prefer D2 to 154CM, but it is a lot harder to sharpen. 154CM holds a good edge, is more stainless, and is much easier to put an new edge on. 154CM is more of an all-around handy kind of steel.

One more vote for D2 :)
Haven't had any CPM154CM blade form Camillus, but others that I've had chipped while D2 is fine, I mean at the same edge angle.
