Don't have one...yet, but my collection is growing back up a bit and carrying 8 knives is, well, somewhat prohibitive at times ;) and even when I do that usually one knife is key most of the time. Not that all 8 are 'just knives' as I count my Swiss Army Knive and Tool in that count and they are carried for their various implements and not for their blades, except one I just use for food, gotta have some rules.

SO, my thought was to have a tier'd shelf where I'd have my knives setup in orientation, Monday it's the Boker, Tuesday it's the Spyderco Rock Lobster...so on and so forth. I was wondering, since I'm sure many of you have far more knives than I do, how do you face this problem of what to carry each day? Tomorrow I'm going to try to JUST carry the Spyderco Pingo, along with my SAK's as required, but my main pocket knife would be just that for the day. So let me know what you guys/gals do to sort out how you display and select the knife you'll carry for the day.

Thanks in advance,
G2

Well....

I currently store all of my knives in 6 of the large Spyderpacs seperated by knife types. I rotate knives daily by going to the next pack in line and taking the next knife in order. I slip a small piece of card paper in the next knife slot just in case I forget. That way I'm usually carrying a different brand each day, although my collection IS Spyderco heavy. In addition, I ALWAYS carry my little Leatherman PS4 Squirt. The only time I change my schedule is if get a new knife in the mail, or I know that I'll need a really tough knife for what I'm going to be doing that day.

Sweet! that's what I'm talking about, I KNEW I wasn't alone in this ;) Thanks for the post and wow, nice looking setup there!!!

What to carry each day...?
I haven't had a massive collections too, might be about 10 folders, but I choose what to carry on the morning. what suited to my pants. like: I would be carrying pingo or endura if I'm wearing shorts... :)

I don't have that many knives. I have a shelf on my bookshelf in my bedroom. I have a section for assisted and autos, then one for EDC knives, then multi-tools, then flashlights, then in the back my zippos, and beside those my traditionals. I have about 7 in each category and grab one from each every day, in addition to my beater/sheeple knife.

Putting them on a shelf also looks nice, and it goes well with my range shelf for my range bag, ammunition and hearing gear.

I also choose by my mood for the day. I take a look at my knives and pick a large folder and a small folder. Sometimes I go for days with the same 2. I like to mix it up but it's always one large and one small. Sometimes I'll just think, "it's been a while since I carried the ______ and I'll pick that one and really enjoy it that day or for a few days...

I have 7 in my EDC rotation right now. On Monday morning I pick the next one in the order and carry it all week, next Monday I pick the next one, etc. I read where people sell a knife because they aren't carrying it enough, all of the ones in my rotation get carried equal amounts.

I just keep the knives in my main EDC rotation sitting on my nightstand. When I leave in the morning, I grab one at random (just whichever one happens to catch my eye first that day). EDC consists of a SAK (Vic Super Tinker) plus one of these four: Leek, Skyline, Delica, Mini-Grip.

Newly acquired knives typically get EDC'd exclusively for a week or two (unless I just really don't care for it) before deciding if it makes the rotation (usually means kicking out an incumbent). Knives that fall out of the rotation go into "storage" (just a shoebox-sized plastic bin). Occasionally, I'll see or remember something (read a post here, see someone carrying something, random memory trigger, etc.), and that will prompt me to pull one out of storage to EDC again for a while.

I might have a friend make a tier'd looking shelf/stand that I can set on my dresser, with at least 7 spots on there, today is PINGO day in the G2 household :)

I have a drawer in my closet that has a liner which has "slots" that works prefect for knives. As for the rotation.....I take a William Henry for dress situations and then typically either a Benchmade or Spyderco when in jeans.

I have some decent folders, but don't care to change all the time. Usually a large Sebenza, although I also love PM2's. I'm such a light user that I don't know why I get hung up on blade-steels sometimes. I almost never need to sharpen anything.
The pic below was correct about two wks ago, but the Hinderers are gone now, and I have other stuff coming in the mail. I've tried most of what I consider "essential possibilities" but Grails are rare. I think that there are lots of good folders, but manufacturers usually have a certain "personality" which shows in their knives. For instance, I think that both CRK and Strider have good stuff, but their knives are as different as night and day.

I have a display case hung in my room and it has the major portion of my 30 or so knives. I also have my brous blades box in my desk that I throw small folders in, my keys, i have 2 torx drivers in. Anyways I carry a large and a small folder, the large has been a Para 2. I'll carry it until I get tired of it or find something I like better. Small folders get switched out daily most of the time from a SAK or a crkt pazoda 2 or maybe it'll be the boker mini kalashnikov today. I pick up whatever appeals to me that day, what knife do I wanna use the most. This system works for me pretty well.

i have a small craftsman rolling drawer toolbox in my office. each drawer holds a specific knife/type. One shel if CF knives, kershaws, spydercos, fixed blades, etc. Nice to have the slode out drawers & ability to lock it as needed:-)

I only have 5 or so and rotate. I pick based on my mood, etc. If I get a new knife, I tend to use it for a week or so (or until my thumb is sore). Then back to the rotation.

I'm not sure of the exact number, but I think I have 100+ knives. Everyday, I go to the Sears tool chest where they reside and just pick whatever suits me that day. As I've noted before, some days I will changes knives a few times. Some days, a minimal, lightweight knife like a UKPK will float my boat. Other days its a ZT0561, Spydie, Cold Steel, CRK or whatever. I admire guys who carry the same knife for years at a time, but I just have a hard time doing that.

User UK Pen Knife, which cleaned up real nice.

I usually carry one for a week or so then swap it out for another one.

Currently have 8 in rotation now, all Spydercos except for the ZAAN.

3!
(1) CQC7B Tan, spends the most time in my pocket. The CQC7 is the all-around best EDC folder.
Mikkel Willumsen Tuco is #2. I carry my Tuco when I want badness in my pocket.
And #3 is is the Boker/Burnley Kwaiken. This folder is so well designed. It's half Gents folder and half all business.

I bought one of these at a local hardware store on sale for around $20 and it sits on top of my dresser. Works for me...

I like the drawer storage approach for convenience; much easier to browse for an appropriate knife for the day. In my opinion, knife rolls are better for indefinite storage and/or travel.

The Victorinox Rambler that lives on my keys is the only true EDC knife I own (never gets swapped out), and lately I carry a large Sebenza Insingo almost exclusively over my other clipped one-handers. These days the only real selection I make is for a small folder to drop into my left front pocket (I like slip-joints/traditionals for this role.)

What is that knife in the lower left hand corner with the cool camo blade?
