EDC Rotation

So long story short the wife and I have moved to the next chapter in our lives vacation wise. We purchased a vacation home in Myrtle Beach and I obviously can't fly with a knife in my pocket or my carry on. So I am going to ship one down to start my vacation EDC rotation. This is what I had to choose from. I'm leaning towards the Para 3 because it's a solid starting point and it's very easy to replace at home and for short money really.

First question is does anyone know the Myrtle Beach area and know of any quality blade shops? I went to a few and wasn't overly impressed.

Second is what is in your rotation that you would part with so to speak and what you couldn't let sit many miles away?

So many possibilities...
The best local blade shop might just be the one you normally frequent through the internet and have shipped to your second house.
As for vacation carry- I would pick the 2 or 3 or 4 in your current EDC that you like the most and buy duplicates to keep at the second house. Nothing better than a good excuse to buy more knives.

for the Myrtle Beach area, I would suggest perhaps looking at the Spyderco Salt series of knives, the coast has very humid salt air.

I’ve had a place in MB for 12 years. I spend a few months a year there. I just got back last week.
I drive down, so I bring a few knives with me, but I have a stash of lower end knives that I’ve bought while there.

As far as quality knife shops , there aren’t many that I know of, other than Bass Pro in North Myrtle.

There’s a decent shop at Barefoot Landing, but everything is at full retail price, so no bargains.
Last time I was there they had Civivi, Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw and Case. A little light on selection but it was tourist season so maybe business was good.

I can't tell you which one to pick, but I can tell you I was a happier man when I only had one knife.

Not overly familiar with the dirty Myrtle area, but I have been before. There is a BassPro there, and they usually have at least a few decent blades to choose from. Usually MSRP though, unless you get a good sale, otherwise just ship one or 2 over ahead of yourself whenever you go there and feel the need.

I would just but something on the internet and have it shipped there, near the beach I would get something like the Spyderco Salt series or Quiet carry , Waypoint or Drift, all highly resistant to corrosion

I leave a ZT 560 and some busse blades at my vacation home, as well as an extra of each of my firearms. That way I'm covered for anything.

First off, congrats and spectacular humblebrag!

Just order a SpydieChef or something similarly great with non-corrosive steel and have it shipped to Myrtle. Solved.

* edit - I now see I wasn’t the only one to have this brilliant idea, so let me top it. Assemble an all new EDC rotation just for those salty environs. Everyone wins!

I could get buy with only three knives but where’s the fun in that?

A full size Griptilian and a SAK make up my first two.

My third would be another modern folder. Something smaller than the Griptilian.

I would also consider adding a fixed blade to the collection if it was appropriate.

As far as what I have in my current rotation that I could leave behind, probably the Sheepdog XL or the Artisan Proponent. I am going through a phase where the right front pocket is some kind of fast draw retention ring and the right rear pocket is some kind of Axis-style folder (the Manix 2 XL qualifies). What this means in terms of the OP's question is I couldn't go without one of my Griptilians, probably take the 550 or 551 and be good to go. If I had your table of choices in front of me, I would take the Doug Ritter then acquire a Leatherman onsite, possibly at one of the numerous sporting goods stores. Cabelas can have a decent knife section or you could get lucky at a Bass Pro Shop.

I keep a Spyderco Siren and a Spydiechef at my beach house. (LC200N steel)
These two seem to handle any needs that arise with absolutely no rust in three years.
And congrats on your new place!

(DLT can ship them to your place usually in 3 days.)
