I am going to get a new back up EDC knife. My main knife is a Spyderco Manix 2 and I needed a more sheeple friendly knife and I was thinking a SAK to replace my Case Sodbuster Jr. I want it to have Black Alox handles any ideas?

I am a fan of the Farmer but I can't find it in Black. I just looked up a few and the Pioneer is the same minus the saw. May be your best bet. Heck I carry both a Sodbuster (right front) and Farmer (left back). I keep the Farmer so sharp I can't seem to make my self use it unless I really need to. I do use the awl a lot though. Hope this helps.

any of the pioneers if you want a hard core sak with a thicker blade my other fav is the climber or the hiker...

check out the fieldmaster, I just picked one up to be a small back up knife to my EDC Spyderco Military. Has Scissors, two blades, saw, awl, philips screw driver and the bottle and can opener, alot in a small light package.

I'm carrying a red Pioneer along with a Spirit. I've seen Black Pioneers for under $25 if you look around.

Not to be a jerk but I would love it if you would keep it to SAK's with black alox handles cause I really like most of them but i'm killing for a Alox one.

Check with felinevet, I am pretty sure that Tim has hard anodized black SAKs that were built by Scibeer. I have two, both are Woodsmans (mainblade, saw, and awl) but he made a ton of the different configurations in blade anodized alox.

I'm liking the Black Alox Pioneer but is the the only black alox one?

Ben...it is the only one that the SAK website is showing. Without contacting them directly, 800-442-2706, it would be really hard to tell otherwise. As somebody else mentioned, a Scribeer mod is probably the best bet for an alox knife. I hear the work is awesome. You can search the forums here and see plenty of the custom jobs.

If it didn't have to be black, the victorinox farmer comse in green, red, silver and orange too. I know it's not a SAK, but even more useful are the leathermans in black coatings, models like the wave, supertool 300, and MUT.

There's also the Cadet in black alox, I picked one up about a month and half ago, nice and slim, half-way inbetween the regular size SAKS and the classic.

Farmer , Pioneer (Soldier with a lanyard ring ) , or Alox Soldier . The Alox range is cooler , has heavier bladestock , and is more rugged . The Farmer is more outdoor oriented ( has a saw ) , the Pioneer/Soldier are a great in town EDC . If you miss the scissors , toothpick , and tweezers , just stash a Rambler in your wallet , or on your keys .
