A female had got her hair tangled in a jet that formed a whirlpool and took her under the water. A quick thinking man got out his EDC pocket knife and dove in and cut her hair free. Two long tries of CPR revived her and she was taken to the Hospital for water inhalation also known as secoundary drowning. This is real proof that your EDC can save a life! Never leave home without it!!

It was on KRGC Channel 13 here in Mid Missouri. My wife was yacking away as usual & I could not catch all the details. I went to the KRGC website like I have to do a lot nowadays & it is not listed yet..Maybe tomorrow it will.

i believe that everyone should carry an EDC - always, and especially around water. many of life's bad situations could be avoided if everyone carried a small knife in an easy to reach location, and those which couldnt be entirely avoided might be significantly lessened.

even if - hopefully - you never get a chance to use it to cut yourself free from a burning vehicle, there are countless uses for a knife as a tool during the regular 'day at the office' - from cutting your sandwich in half to opening envelopes, peeling apples, opening bubble-wrap, whatever.

unfortunately with the way society is headed soon we will not be able to carry even 'harmless' utility tools like SAKs. in many places - schools, airports, court & govt buildings, many workplaces, etc - they are already prohibited. i think most of us could walk into just about any room and pick a half dozen items that would be far more lethal to attack people with than the 2" blade on an SAK - hell youd probably fare better bludgeoning someone with a briefcase. when are people going to learn that it is impossible to 'nerf' our entire world by removing all pointy/dangerous objects - its not the objects that kill but the intent of the person wielding them.

its a shame the media doesnt help more - a story like this that paints knives in a positive light will be forgotten tomorrow, but if a schoolkid threatens his teacher with the 1" blade on his leatherman then it will be frontpage news for weeks.

cheers,
-gabriel

It's better to have a knife and not need it, rather then need a knife and not have it. I never leave home without a knife on my person. This story is a great example of how important a knife can be.

Wow -- I hadn't heard that on the Springfield news and I live fairly close to there.

One of our factory workers got his sleeve caught in one of our auto loaders and started to get dragged in. I had my Benchmade 551 with me which quickly cut the sleeve off and saved a trip to the hospital :barf:

EGGZAKLY WRITE!

My philosophy is: Always carry a knife that is capable of quickly cutting someone out of a seat belt.

I got my shirt caught in a conveyor belt once. I decided to play "tug o' war" rather than hit the emergency stop that was right in front of me. The shirt got torn to shreds but luckily I wasn't hurt.

[http://www.krcg.com/ Whoops...sorry about that one. Yes, it is KRCG channel 13 here in Missouri. :foot: QUOTE=Stone Knife]Is that actually KRCG? I'd really like to see that story.[/QUOTE]

Could this be the story you are thinking about?

Teen saves young girl from drowning, Lake Ozark, MO

Two other stories, one which ended tragically.
Two hair entrapments in California

In the Miami news recently, there also was a girl that was underwater at a Disney hotel in Orlando, FL. A quickthinking sport's agent performed CPR on her and saved her life. Apparently, he is know as being a rather hard nosed bargainer, so was happy not only to be able to save the girl's life, but also for getting some noteriety for during something laudable.
