Hi guys,

anyone having experience with this combo ?

Just got my new 204 sharpmaker and thinking about how to best sharpen the recurved 154CM blade on my CUDA EDC - any hints ? Best to use the 40° angles ? Any advice highly appreciated. (Sharpening newbie)

TIA

Klaus

I use the angled edges of the SharpMaker rods, at a 40 degree angle. The flats tend to be a little too flat for the recurved area. You'll probably want to roll the edge on each side of the bevel, when you first start sharpening. Once you've rolled the edge on each side, you can just start alternating the sides as you stroke.

I did a have a sharpening problem with my wife's 154CM EDC at one time, which was caused by back beveling at 30 degrees. Doing so caused the blade to have a tendency to chip out a little, so I never back bevel anymore on the 154CM EDC. Will set me straight on this one during a very pleasant phone conversation.

Thank you Buzz,

did I ever told you that I will held you responsible for having to buy that 560 with BG42 blade ? Still need that "One-armedBandit" for it though. Great knife !

What about Buzzbenza :D

I agree totally with Buzzbait.

I use only the corners on the rods, and use a 40 degree angle. It works just fine. I also agree that the flats are too flat for the recurve. Your EDC will be shaving sharp in no time!

Spyderco sharpened my EDC at the shot show this year. They started with several swipes on the new diamond rods and finished with the white ones. It only took about a minute to produce a shaving sharp edge. They pointed out to only use the flat sides and not the corners on a recurve blade.

I use the 204 as my default sharpening system and I have resharpened my Talonite EDC with it and it brought the edge back to hair popping sharp in a little amount of time.
