I bought a Seal Pup a couple weeks back, but found the sheath to be a poor design for my uses. I'm wondering if anyone around here has suggestions of members to message about ordering a custom sheath, or sites I could check out. I use it mostly for while in the field, but I do have a need for it in some day-to-day work.

Are you looking for kydex or leather?

We do need a sticky list of both kydex and leather benders huh? Might be a project worth doing. :)

I'm leaning towards leather, but kydex would be fine. I just need a sturdy sheath that doesn't rub into the blade the way my current one does.

What type of leather sheath are you leaning towards?Low ride, mid, or high ride, drop leg? Do you want want extra straps for lashing the sheath to a pack or your leg?

Would you like the sheath toolled/carved or with some kind of inlay?

I'd like the handle to be either equal to or just above where the sheath straps to my belt/vest. A strap over the...forgot the word, but where the handle meets the blade. And it doesn't really need an inlay. Any more info I should add to narrow my search/ simplify my idea?

The sheath you describe sounds like a sheath I made a few months ago for one of my SOG knives. Pictures are here: X-42 Field knife sheath It's a basic low ride sheath that might give you more ideas as to exactly what you want in a sheath. The retaining strap I did was modelled after the one on the Kabar USMC sheaths. But other strap angles and mountings can be done.

BTW How do you like the Seal Pup? Thats one of the older style SOGs that I don't have but want.

That is a great looking sheath. Its almost exactly what I have in mind. Only changes I'd make are the knife riding just a bit higher, and a dark stain. I find it more comfortable for me if the top of the handle is in line with my belly button. If you could do basically that same sheath, but put the top of the strapping point right at about mid-handle it would be perfect for me. Also, could you pm or just post a rough quote on the price for one?

As for the Seal Pup, its been great for me. I use it for simple stuff, but I can't use a folding blade due to safety hazards. When I first got it, it felt almost fragile. But after a couple days in the field, I feel pretty confident in it. And it doesn't get time fuse crap stuck to it like my other knives.

Hi Fettman, I sent you an email through the forum. Please email me back at wildmanh@yahoo.com I've also included it in the email. Thanks,
