I'm looking for a really nice every day carry quality knife with a shorter blade- under 3 inches. The problem is finding a folder with a substantial enough handle to feel good in XL size hands but a small blade, under 3 inches. For example, my ancient Buck 109 feels very nice, but everything else not right for me.

budget limit is around 300
plain blade edge, sheepsfoot but with some point if that makes sense. Not a stabby type blade.
rugged because I tend to be a bit rough on tools
something not threatening or tactical, more "gentleman's style" but still quick to open with one hand
locking type when open
pocket clip
lightweight preferred
Not a flick, spring opening or auto, banned in my area.
very nice quality steel that holds a good edge, and can take marine use, something like lc200n seems perfect
I like spyderco designs, but prefer something that looks less plastic (just a personal preference).
The spyderco caribbean salt sheepsfoot feels great in my hand, great blade shape for me, but way too big of a blade.

Does this exist in a production knife or do I need something custom?

Any members with large hands try the Spyderco Native Salt 5? With the index finger cut out on the base of the blade it looks like it has a much better grip than most smaller folders.

I am not sure about that the Spydie when closed is 4.46"and the native is 4" which is basically, you are right though you do have the finger choil. One other point is the Native has the FRN handle with does look and feel like plastic. The Caribbean has a better handle with the two color g-10 but it is larger in every way.

I saw a pic of the Native with matte Micarta scales. The company wants 94 Euro for the kit, pretty expensive, but does look really nice. I like the sanded micarta feel too.

I've only had it about a month but no issues. I live 35 miles from lake Michigan and .5 miles from another lake, plus the salt from the snow plows in the winter, yet very little rust issues even on my CPM-M4 Spyderco Gayle Bradley.

Sounds like it meets the need. Thanks

Seems like the best two options have already been recommended lol. If you need good corrosion resistance, go with the Spyderco Spydiechef. However if you would prefer a tougher, more hard use blade, go with the Demko 20.5.

A third option would be the Kizer Sheepdog. It's a bit over 3in (3.25) but it will definitely feel good in the hand. They have a ton of options in micarta/G10 for under $100, or you can get a titanium version for around $200. Decent amount of choices for blade steel as well (154cm, 10v, S35VN, etc.)

I ended up buying the Kizer October with the cpm20cv blade and black micarta scales. Hoping it does not feel to small, but I it has that finger cutout on the blade, so it should work well.
