Thought I'd see what I could do with stuff I always carry.:)

Some berries (actually, it appears they are grapes...d'oh!):

Look at the date stamp (I HATE this camera):

I tied this with some old shoelace I had in the bag...it's the only tied off part:

Done!

The knife that did it all, and my "hi tech" school/gym/woods bag:

If you see X's, try to refresh...Photobucket is screwing up today.

Yeah, I think they're likely grapes.
I'm not the best at identifying plants.:o

Grapes. I remember eating them as a kid in southern Ontario. I also remember sh**ing my guts out from them.:D
Neat shelter and impressive use of a folder !

Thanks for the pictures Stabman, Fox grapes should be about ripe, I'll have to check on them. A little tart, so just a few will do for me.

Cool shelter. Get familar with the edibles in your area and you won't have to resort to things mentioned in your post "How far would you go?".:D
Example: Where's Joe? Stabman says"I ate him. "But there's grapes everywhere."
In Georgia the muscadines(wild grapes) are everywhere right now.

You're so correct on this one.
I've just never gotten good at it yet. Plant info doesn't seem to stick in my brain much (yet), and slight colour blindness screws it up at times.
"Look for the plant with the yellow spotted green leaves."
"Oh, you mean this one?"
"No, that's brown."

Nice work on that with what you had on you:thumbup:
I read the title and and my expensive mtn sports stasher poncho came to mind:D. I use the stasher as and EDC shelter option and of course a poncho,it's a back pack staple. Last year in the Adirondacks I had to use it for a shelter in a pinch when a friend planned a over ambitious day of hiking in the high peaks. Here's a pic of it.
