How's it going everyone, I was just wondering how many people occasionally EDC S&W knives. I'm not talking about the $5 autozone knives. I mean the "nicer" ones. If so what models.
M&P- I like this knives design and features but the blade just won't hold an edge.
Black ops- I actually EDC this one alot, I love the design and it's the only combo edge I'm actually ok with.

Before I joined BF I carried a S&W ck35 24-7 my mom got me for Christmas for about 2 years. It wouldn't hold an edge for long but I also beat the heck out of it as a construction knife using it for non cutting tasks. It's a tough knife and still locks up as solid as the day I got it. I've never adjusted the pivot either. Nice action as far as being able to flick open with the thumb stud. The only poor thing about it to me was the grippy insert lost it's sticky and fell out of the handle.

I actually EDC'd the first generation S.W.A.T. from 1994-2003. Carried various knives before that. Been carrying Kershaws since 2003.

I carried this thing for almost 2 years, got it about 5 years ago. At the time I loved it, didn't know any better, cost me $20 maybe. Turns out Boker makes/markets the same thing. I still bring this out on occassion for nostalgia.

Since then, the knife, EDC light, and keychain light have all been banished to the drawer in favor of US-made offerings from Surefire, Kershaw/ZT, and ARC.

I guess S&W just dropped the ball so badly on the cheap crap that most people dont want to try others out. I'm not saying I love these knives but a $50 dollar M&P was my first knife that got me into collecting so I guess I just have a hard time forgetting about the company.... Especially since I really like their firearms.

Pretty much sums it up. I've always been amazed S&W lets their name be associated with the knives...but times are hard and a buck is buck.

There are a few semi-decent items in the line, and ther are some interesting designs. I bought a few, but traded off almost every one, except for and M&P.
Some will say they are ok for the cost, but really there are just so many better options (Kershaw, Spyderco, Byrd, etc.) out there for the same price, why bother messing with them.

I carry an original SWAT quite a bit and I've beat the crap out of it. Still as smooth and solid as the day I got it. Paid about $2 for it. Have a few fixed blades as well and have never had any complaints about 'em.

I got one of the Darrel Ralph designed ones for Christmas. It was partially serrated. Not being a fan of serrations, I traded it in for a Kershaw Chill.

Alann45- which design of the M&P did you have. Mine was the sandbox colored handle with the black coated blade. The blade was the cool looking curved style (don't know the name to that style blade).

It's one of the MAGIC spring assisted ones. Not sure the #, and its burried in my knife box :D
Not a bad little knife, though the plastic "flipper" lever made me wonder how much use it would stand.

One of my friends carries a Smith and Wesson. There's NOTHING wrong with the knife at all... but because I look up to him I'm getting him a Spyderco for his birthday. And I carry a ZT just in case we ever get into a knife fight ;)

.... but not as my only knife. After I lost my BM auto working an MVA, I decided that I would carry a S&W auto instead. A little easier on the wallet when things get bad. I carry it for a specific purpose and after several years of hard use it is holding up fine. I do have to adjust the pivot and the clip occasionally but I service all my firearms and tools regularly so why wouldn't I do it with my knives.

My general duty EDC is a Vic Hunter. And a Classic lives on my keys. When I ride the rescue I'll also put a multi on my belt. Which one varies.
