I’m looking for an EDC along the lines of a Shirogorov Hation Zero. I like the 3.0-3.5” blade length and 3.25” really seems to be the sweet spot - but closed size is really the major factor - I’d take as much blade as I can get in 4-4.5” handles. I like the smaller form factor closed as I often carry in front pockets, but also don’t want something too small to be held well.
For reference, my PM2 handles are a bit longer than I’d like and the blade seems quite short for the size of the handles. The height of the closed knife is also a bit more than I’d like due to the spydiehole arched blade shape.
I am looking for a slicer, in a good blade profile for everyday and varied use.
The Shiro is an option, but when I spoke with a dealer who shall not be named I was told for actual use vs. just for a show knife it may not be ideal with the uncaged bearings. I don’t know if this is an actual concern or not. I’m looking for something I can actually use, and not worry about seizing up on me if it gets dirty. My PM2 runs just fine even after exposure to a good bit of drywall dust (in the process of remodeling my home), for example. I don’t expect the impossible, but I don’t want something that’s temperamental. It’ll be going out fishing (I sneak out for a few hours sometimes to go fly fish as I keep my rod with me, so packing a full fixed blade all the time isn’t always ideal short of my vehicle always being packed for a full expedition), camping, etc and not just used solely as a fidget toy. I do disassemble and clean my knives as needed, generally after any exposure to liquids or fine dust/grit.
I do love the idea of a bearing based flipper, especially one with a smooth action. Fidget capability is a definite plus! I am tempted by the Shiro, the Hinderer 3” no-choil, and other knives along these lines. So far, the Shiro seems to have the size I’d like just right in terms of handle and blade, but I would love some other suggestions especially with use in mind. Thanks!
