Ive got 7 knives in my edc rotation. I usually carry the same knife for 3 to

6 days. Sometimes more.

I used to buy lower priced knives and carry a different one every day.

I have higher end knives now and appreciate quality instead quanity.

How many knives in your rotation and how long do you carry the same

knife?

Hi clockman -

I have 10 or so that I have carried, but lately (since I bought my Acies), I have carried my VIC Waiter in my left front pocket, my Acies in my right front pocket, and either a Spyderco Bug or Honeybee in my 5-hole (the little change pocket on jeans).

When I am going someplace where I cannot carry a larger knife such as the Acies, I'll carry either my Sog Flash I, a Mini-Grip, a Leek, a Zing or a small S&W Cuttin' Horse.

I know it sounds excessive to some, but I am sure my knife friends will agree I am doing the right thing.... :D

best regards -

Just one(at the moment)...my trusty D2 para...i tried doing the rotation thing but i always just picked the newest and carried it...and then i found the D2 para and its been in my pocket for a while...i pair it with a Vic Cadet

Without counting, I own 15 knives that I rotate. I have never carried the same knife for a week straight in my right pocket. A lot of things will go into what I carry on any given day:
* Do I need to carry a people friendly knife?
* Which one feels sharpest today?
* If kids will be around, which ones are harder to open?
* Which one is starting to feel neglected?
* I got a salmon Case Barlow when Grandma died and a Queen Congress when my daughter got home from heart surgery. So, am I feeling sentimental?
* Will I need a knife with more belly or more point?
* Will carbon or stainless be better?
* Do I have a change pocket today?
* If not, what else might be in my pocket that might rub the scales?
* Which knife can afford to be rubbed that way? (I don't have a sheath)
* Is this a day for a heavy knife or a light one?
* Depending on the scheduled activities of the day, can I afford to lose it? and can I trust my life to it, if needed?

All this flashes by in an instant...and then I choose.

I try to have a rotation but my Sage 2 occupies my pocket 90% of the time. My mini-griptillian, Delica 4 and Case Slimline Trapper are what else i like to carry. I have a G-10 dragonfly for when i travel, it's small enough that it's legal to carry most places. plus i have various SAKs and multitools to choose from as well that i always also have one of on my person.

I have 6 currently in my rotation and I will change out knives in my rotation every few days. Although some are permanent.

My two permanent in the rotation:
1. CRK Sebenza Sm 21
2. Spyderco Sage 2

These get rotated and rotated out for others every so often.

3. Spyderco Paramilitary
4. Spyderco Gayle Bradley
5. Benchmade 710
6. Benchmade 940

I too have been leaning towards quality over quantity, although I still have a pretty broad selection.

My Vic Climber is always with me 7 days a week.

I typically rotate between 3-4 folders.

I just got an XM-18 flipper directly from Rick that has been my sole edc since getting it 1 1/2 weeks ago. It will be tough to beat it, as it has pushed my large Sebenza to second place, and my ZT 0200 to third place.

I tend to select my knife depending on activities. My ordinary day EDC use I throw in a Kershaw Blur, occasionally add in a SAK one handed trekker since I find the screwdrivers and stuff useful.

In the lab and field I tend to have multitools with me. Usually that is either the Swiss Tool X or Leatherman Charge.

When they make me dress up and act all civil, suit and all, it usually a job for the Kershaw Leek. It is small, slender and easy to conceal. I don't like to carry my Blur as it a little oversized for such clothing.

Drat these people who make me have to go attend stuff for the company.

I have one... Spyderco Stretch II. There is also a SAK Cadet on my keys that go with me everyday.

Permanent: Emerson CQC-7

Rotated: Emerson CQC-8, Emerson Super Commander, Emerson CQC-10, ZT0200.

I am an Emerson fan.

Until recently, my mainstay was a Vic Farmer, with rotation consisting of a Spyderco Cricket, Meerkat and Caly Jr, or a GEC 73 or Queen or Case of some sort.

For the past month or so, my mainstays have been a Vic Farmer in LFP and Bob Dozier Folding Hunter in RFP. And it doesn't look like it's gonna change anytime soon either.

I have 4 edc folders that I carry. Rest of my folders that I have are to be sold off or are rarely carried.

My Main 5:
CRK Lg 21 Seb--this guy gets the most carry

Spyderco Para--gets some carry, mostly in the summer with work

BM 710 Kreined--also gets use during work. I edc it once in a while for a change

Yuna eq2--great little knife. I edc it once in a while as its a bit small for what I like knives for, but I keep it cause it is a friendly knife :)

Emerson a-100--actually just got this guy, but its a keeper. Will carry this one solo for a few weeks. Need to get to know her still. After a few weeks Ill know for sure if shes for keeps. So far she has been very good. In fact she sits beside me as I type:). Always fun to have a new knife

Others:
I have a couple slipjoints I edc from time to time
I also carry a fixed blade on weekends. have around 6 or so and I try to switch em up each weekend. Have been using my Busse active duty for the past two weeks as I just got a new sheath to test out. Been great thus far

I currently have 2 in my normal rotation. The first is a Spyderco Tenacious and the second is a Kershaw Skyline. They are both "daily beater" knife status as I don't care if I lose them nor do I care if I lend them to people etc. I have nice knives and sometimes carry them on the weekends. I plan on getting a para military soon though for EDC to use hard.

How many knives in your rotation and how long do you carry the same knife?
About 3-5 folders in rotation and 1-2 SAKs always carry.

Now the list consists of
  • BokerPlus AK74DES (partially serrated) - best for my hand size
  • Byrd Flight plain in G-10 - cheap and universal
  • Byrd Crossbill serrated in G-10 - for fun :)
  • BM551BKSN
  • Wenger NewRanger 61 (for apples etc.)
  • Victorinox Craftsman (as EDC tool, always in the sheath on belt)
  • some small Victorinoxes on keys

Folders will be changed only if I will find some knives more fit fo me. Maybe in 1-2 months, but Boker presents in rotation about 1 year.

Four folders that I generally rotate between; Boker Titan defender, Boker Lightweight Titan Defender, modified Ontario Retribution 1, and a ZT0500. Recently it has been the Lightweight Titan Defender at work, and the Ontario Retribution 1 after work.

Have a 5th knife that will go into rotation coming this week, it is a custom from Andrew Demko. Should be extra sweet!!

Btw, I have no set carry time, carry till the notion to change strikes me.

For EDC, I have 4 SAK's in rotation, 3 folders and 1 small multitool. I carry a SAK almost every day and add a folder or multitool to it. Currently the Leatherman Juice 2 is my EDC multitool and I am carrying it everyday for almost two weeks now. The SAK's are usually switched each weekend.

I've currently got 8 in my EDC rotation, and I seldom carry the same one more than a day or two at a time.

  1. Spyderco Delica
  2. Spyderco Centofante 4
  3. Spyderdo Navigotor Almite
  4. Spyderco T-Mag
  5. Kershaw Leek Composite
  6. Case Trapper Chestnut CV
  7. Case Swayback Jack Chestnut CV
  8. Victorinox Cadet
I change pretty much at random, and carry whichever knife calls to me that day. ;)

I do 3 types of rotations for my modern folders so I can get around to them all. I have a warm and cold time of the year rotation and home rotation. I rotate all knives weekly. This also sorta helps keep my memory a little more keen. Warm to cold weather rotation all changes by one or two knives, and the work knives are staying the same for now. I carry a different traditional every week.
