EDC tips needed!

Howdy,

Been checking out a few different blades for EDC carry. I'd prefer it to be an auto, but a manual isn't a deal breaker if it's the right knife. 8" or under total length, 3-4" blade and preferably a spear/drop/clip point.

I'd appreciate any info on the blades I've already been looking and and of course suggestions of others I should be looking at!

Currently:

Protech Emerson CQC7 Auto (would like a bit more elegance and less tacticalness)

Benchmade Model 440 (not crazy about the blade geometry, but love the elegant design)

Protech TR-3 Auto (loooooooove the red, blade is a bit on the large side)

This would be my first auto folder, the only other folder I own is an old Lakota Phoenix my father gave me. Being a swede, I do own a few fixed blade Fällknivens... naturally.

Thanks for the tips so far, the model 530 is pretty intriguing.

Anyone used a Spyderco Sage?

If your looking at Spidies look at the Para Military. I have a B/M AFO 2 and carry the Para more.

I own the sage 2.
The sage knives are AWESOME! They have some of the best fit and finish of a lot of knives out there.

Also, I agree with Georgia, the Paramilitary 2 is an awesome and excellent knife. =]

What is the difference between the Sage 1 and 2? I'm not entirely up-to-date on locking mechanism terminology.

Right now the Sage is looking a tad more attractive than the PM 2, through my biased eyes :D But I'm still leaning towards the automatic-direction. How sensitive are they to dirt and grit? I'm not going to go playing in the desert, but I don't want to have to be paranoid about sheltering it.

Search PVK in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly before purchasing from them.

Are you on active duty in the military or an leo officer ? Unless you are you can't legally buy an auto. You might be able to buy 1 here 1 used on BF tho.

There are a Lot of great knives to consider tho......it makes the decision a little hard.

Hmm. Kinda scary. It was a collector-friend of mine that recommended the site, he's ordered probably $5000 worth of knives without any hick-ups.

Benchmade griptilian,
Benchmade mini Griptilian
Cold Steel Mini AK-47
All great knives, and you won't go broke buying them. (implying one at a time :D)

The difference between the sage models is the different locking mechanisms.

Sage 1 - Liner lock.
Sage 2 - Ti frame lock - my favorite.
Sage 3 - Bolt action lock.
Sage 4 - Back lock.

Look at the Protech Brend #2; it's one of the best looking knives I've ever seen. (The blade's 2.9 instead of 3", but if the 3.5" blade of the TR-3 is too big, then the Brend #2's size may be perfect for you.)

Also check out the Kershaw Breakout. Slick design, (second only to the Brend,) great quality, you can get it in red, (I think,) and it's less than half the price of the other autos you were looking at.

The kershaw echlon is a striking knife great design, the spyderco and benchmade knives are more then likely the best way to go.

you will not be disappointed if you go with that. Very light and maybe the best clip I've seen anywhere.

I did in fact end up ordering one. And I doubt I will be disappointed :)

Not long after I placed the order this puppy caught my eye as well:

Unless I can resist I'll probably be fondling one of them sooner or later.
