Hello all, apologies if this is in the wrong section. Im looking to buy a gift for someone. It needs to be an EDC UK legal knife, they have spydercos and benchmades already (non edc) but i have no idea about knives myself. i would like to ideally get them a custom made one but realise they can be pretty expensive. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations. my limit would probably be £500 at a push. Could anyone recommend a maker? or point me in a direction? much appreciated.

PITS folder, if you can get one. If you are UK based, google british blade to find the right forum where Mike Read (pie in the sky) is. He makes amazing UK legal knives. Spyderco are releasing a PITS soon.

Look up pie in the sky on that forum. He posts in there. I know 2 people who have them, and they love them. He actually has a thread in there about getting some off spyderco, asking who wants in.

And Heinnie have been saying they are coming in since the summer. It is on my wishlist. Spyderco need to get their fingers out lol.

T.A. Davison makes excellent slipjoints, so does Hiroaki Ohta. Both make mostly traditional patterns, but sometimes use modern handle materials like G-10 or carbon fibre. Ohta makes a few knives with handle shapes that don't follow traditional lines.

If you're attracted to knives with modern features (clips, one hand opening and so on), then take a look at Mikkel Willumsen's Snake Doc. He makes a slipjoint version (on which the Lansky World Legal Knife, or something like that, is based). He offers several blade shapes (and opening methods), different handle materials and so on.
