How many of us carry one type of knife for EDC; and something completely different for ODC?
(Outdoor carry...)
I've got too many EDC knives to choose from; but my ODC choices usually taste like Leatherman Super Tools.
What do you do

I always have a smallish slip joint of some sort in my pocket

And a large-ish locking folder of some sort clipped to my pocket

Outside walking with the dog or what ever, some sort of fixed blade

I definitely do. If I'm doing outdoors activities, camping, working on my car, doing yardwork, and things along those lines, I carry one of my Cold Steels. Anywhere else, my higher end stuff comes along for the ride.

This is such a great knife that I often EDC it as well, but one of my main go-to outdoor folders is the Hinderer Jurassic (I also EDC and ODC the Swisstool Spirit X in black oxide).

There have been a couple others that I enjoy carrying outdoors more recently though

I can't resist this one when it matches the lake I'm going to be visiting

And the AD20.5, which I carry regularly as well (I'm planning on an AD20 at some point too, which I think will make an excellent outdoor folder).

My outdoor SAK is the Vic Climber (stayglow scales on one side, marble on the other)

I also tend to carry a couple of fixed blades with me outdoors (one on my belt and the other in my pack)

Then, when I'm outdoors and on the water I go with the Salt series

I have SAKs and small folders like a Chap/DF2 for urban EDC. ODC depends on the season - Millie and Chief in the winter, Natives IWB in the summer and 3.5"-ers are for spring and autumn, when I wear at least some pants with pockets.
I also like smallish fixed blades for all occasions.

This thread needed some pictures…. My edc/odc is interchangeable for my needs. There is a common theme, fixed and folder. If I walk outside of my house I will have a fixed and folder of some flavor in my pocket. Additionally there are a couple knives I keep in my truck just in case.

I haven’t been in the woods in several years, but when I was I would carry my Buck Nighthawk and my Buck CrossLock. I’ve field dressed much game with that CrossLock.

I also ODC a Spyderco Pacific Salt on all my fishing excursions.

I carry a small SAK all the time no matter what. My daily edc is a microtech ultratech. I think it's a perfect edc....carries extremely small and slim but has a 3 3/8" full size blade and handle.

When I go fishing or walking in the woods, I usually switch out to the larger combat troodon.

For dedicated camping or anything longer than a day trip, or where I expect to do more serious knife work, I have a field/camp bowie in 1075 steel. But if I found myself in the woods with only my SAK and combat troodon, I'd feel fairly prepared to handle most knife work, even harder use stuff and some surprises.

And at any point my spyderco native LW might get dropped in a pocket or pack too.

Here's a pic of the two microtechs, by far my most carried two as of late.

🙌

The knife is definitely amazing, but your photo is basically art!!!! Great framing and the shadows/lights are perfect.

May I ask where was it taken?
Thanks! I know I always say this, but I really must give the credit to nature. That is Talapus Lake, in North Bend, WA (Cascade Mountain Range). At around 3,200ft, it is one of the lower elevation Alpine Lakes that we hike to often, so it thaws earlier than some others and is accessible early in the season (hopefully I'll be heading there soon again this year). That particular nook in the woods is so cool that my son and I make it a point to search it out every time we visit and relax there for a bit. It frames pictures so well there with the reflection that it's somewhat surreal. This one I took at the same spot almost looks like the bird is in front of one of those backdrops they would put behind you at 80's portrait studios in the back of department stores.

I will be looking for some more photos my friend. Please share the beauty and your art.

I always have a SAK in my pocket but tend to go with a 93mm Alox or 111mm model paired with a 4” or larger fixed blade when I hike or camp…gotta justify buying them fixed blades somehow. lol
