Im looking to purchase a new edc folder maybe an assisted opener. I need one no more than 3 inches for work (cutting boxes & strapping mostly). I dont mind paying big money as long as it is worth it. I was using a buck110 for work until it grew legs.:grumpy: Any suggestions? Photos would be good.

My first thread.

Benchmade Mini griptilian, spyderco delica, or a cold steel medium voyager would all suit your needs. I don't own a mini grip, but they are pretty popular. The other two are models I own. Solid knives and fit the bill.

More specific requirements would help, there are literally countless options under 3 inches in a wide variety of styles, materials, and price ranges. What does "big bucks" mean to you? To some people a $50 knife is expensive, others own and use multiple $1000+ customs. If you really are prepared to drop some dough, I don't think you can get much better in a reliable, tried and true 3in blade than a Chris Reeve small Sebenza. They range from about $350 to pushing $1000 and they have a tremendous following.

Spyderco delica 4. Awesome knife. They are made out of great materials, and are very lightweight, yet durable. If you do end up getting a delica, get the saber grind if you are going to be using it for work (saber grind has stronger, thicker tip).

I work in a warehouse retail store, and I have to cut plastic straps, tape, shrink wrap, and cardboard all day. I only carry knives with 3 inch or less blades, so as not to scare the others.
I alternate between one of my many BM Mini Grips and my gray Spyderco Delica 4.
I suggest the BM Ritter Mini Griptilian. You can get orange, black, yellow, or pink handles with a high flat ground stonewashed S30V blade for $112.

get a delica in zdp 189 if you plan to cut a whole lot of things (with a zdp 189, you can cut nearly anything.) around $105.

another vote for BM mini grip.
Also Spyderco native
ZT 0350 or 0300 if you want a more tanky feeling knife

Im very interested in the delica but have not made up my mind yet. Very helpful guys, keep it coming.

Spyderco Native will be my first choice. Fantastic ergos and great steel, especially for cardboard.
Full Flat grind Delica also great, but I would choose S30V over VG10 for your intend of use.

If you don't mind spending I would go with a small sebenza Insingo.
Last 3" folder you'll ever need:)

This feels like the good old days of Bladeforums when a Sebenza was recommended for everything :)

Guessing "big money" in original post means $100-150 more likely than $350.

On separate note, I'd love to see some photos of $300+ folders that have spent a few months in a busy warehouse/backroom.

I like the David Boye folder with the Stellite leaf blade and a yellow FRN handle with an optional Titanium marlinspike.

For inexpensive options:
Kershaw Needs Work, AO, Not too expensive, if it "grows legs" too.
Also, consider Byrd Hawkbill or Wings. serrated edge might be just the thing for strapping material.

If you liked the 110, why not a 112? It meets the 3" blade limit you mention and has a life time warranty that's second to none. It's the top knife in this picture.

The delica is the red hot favorite at the moment. Sounds like s30v is the way to go. Anymore ideas before i make the purchase?

The Sage Is Very Nice And Looks Classy. I Have The Sage 2... So If You Don't Mind Spending A Little More Than You Would On A Sage 1, I Would Suggest That Because Titanium Is Just Awesome.

Also The Sage 3 Is Really Cool With The Blue G-10 And All. And I Really Love The Bolt Action Lock. But The Sage 2 Is A Titanium Frame Lock, So Truly It's Hard To Beat Either.

Bradley Alias 2 Is Awesome As Well.

And Another Vote For The Delica.

But For The Work You're Doing And Around $50 You Can't Beat A Spyderco Native With It's Nice Beefy FRN And s30v Steel. You Could Also Get The G-10 Native 5 With A Flat Ground s35vn Steel Blade And An Improved Lock.
