I work as a technician at printing factory where we print newspapers and the like. We have all tools we could need except a decent kinfe. The knives we do have are these:

They cut boxes, paper, small conveyor belts and the like pretty well but are flimsy. I cant get trough a decent tyrap without the fear of breaking a blade and cutting up something i don't want.
I need something with more balls and since i'm the only one who has a higher knife standard i dont see my chef handing out quality knives to us.

Its an environment with ink, oil, petroleum and so-called biologic(yeah, sure) cleaning agents so both the blade and the handle scales have to be resistant to such.
I want to carry it on my belt without people thinking im out for a kill. I am looking at either a RC-3 or an Izula for EDC.
So far leaning towards the Izula. Cheaper, less obvious and i'm afraid the oils and petroleum will degrade the micarta. And a paracord wrapping can easily be replaced.

Are my assumptions valid? Do you guys have other recommendation? Is carbon steel the right material?

I think an izula would be just fine but you may want to look into olfa as the have a line of heavier bladed utility knives cause for tasks you have described I think a utility knife is the prfect tool

A small fixed blade would probably be a good bet. If you wanted to go with a folder, ZT knives has one called the Mudd. It has rubber gaskets that prevent anything(oil,dirt,etc) from making contact with/stopping the pivot,bushings,and lock mechanism. They run like $144 on newgraham.com 1280 × 855 - 165k - jpg - i107.photobucket.com/.../IMG_0767-1.jpg

Tbo id go with an izula. They are only $40 and they will last a lifetime. You just have to look out for thieves lol

A fixed blade is definitely what i'm looking for. The mechanics of folders are to prone to dirt, chemicals and , paperdust combined with ink fog.

i think an izula would be a good choice, if it gets messed up to the point where it wont work you could use the awesome warranty.

Does that warranty extend world-wide? Being in the Netherlands i'm not just gonna bring it over to jeff. Not that i don't want to....

well it is a "no questions asked lifetime warranty" i am very sure that it extends to the netherlands, there are a handful of dutch ESEE owners :D

TBO = To Be Honest

Go for the Izula, no scales... the micarta is porous.

I actually like the feel of it with no wrap.

No offense, but wouldn't that make it TBH?
I can feel myself moving towards the izzy. I want one for home use anyway.
