Zero Tolerance 0566. The only thing is the slightly over 3" blade. I got mine for $115.

You can pick up a ZT0350 for right around $100-105, but I personally have to have a specific need if I'm going to carry anything with that broad of a blade (and I do have those days, but most days opt for something narrower).

Spyderco Chaparral. The carbon fiber version can be had for about 100 bucks, or there is a titanium version for a little more. It a solid little knife with a thin, slicey, blade. I wouldn't call it really heavy duty.

Spyderco Paramilitary II. Slightly over budget, and longer than 3 inches, but it's arguably one of the best production knives you can buy right now. Very tough and quite lightweight for its size.

Benchmade 707. You used to be able to find these for around $100, but BM inflated their prices over the last year. Still for the money it's a EDC masterpiece of a knife.

Kershaw Skyline. Cheap, simple, light, excellent overall.

The Manix 2 with G10 hits every sticking point..

-S30v steel
-G10 scales
-3" on the nose
-Axis style lock
-Good size lanyard hole
-Decent weight (translucent scales are lighter with BD1 Steel and no liners)
-I love the forward finger choil too
-$113 at bentoboxshop.com Can find one for a little less..
-for $134 get AWESOME s110v steel but scales aren't what you want.

The Sage 1 will fill all of your requirements and be very high in F&F. Some of the others will, too, but since you're already considering the Sage it'll match your needs and be easy to carry, too.

Aaah the classic "Caly 3 vs Sage" dilemma. Choosing has been known to cause madness among knife enthusiasts. :D

The only way forward is to pick up both.

Exactly! That said, I've owned the Sage 1 and a couple different versions of the Caly (Caly 3 CF ZDP, Caly 3.5 CF ZDP). I prefer the Caly series because I'm more partial to lock-backs than I am to liner locks (although the liner lock on the Sage is very, very good). The Caly, believe it or not, is also slimmer, thus making it easier to carry. They both ride very deep in the pocket and have excellent fit and finish. The f&f on the Sage may be slightly better than that of the Caly. The Taichung Spyderco knives are absolutely outstanding. To stay within your budget, you'll want to go the Caly 3 with G-10 scales and VG-10 steel. The Sage, at roughly the same price, offers S30V steel. YMMV, but in my experience, VG-10 is easier to sharpen and S30V holds an edge longer.

To echo the sentiments of everyone else...you can't go wrong with either and you'll probably end up with both in the future!

The Caly 3 with G10 and VG10 steel is discontinued and hard to find now. But they still make the CF ZDP version.
The Caly 3.5 with Superblue Steel is one of my all time favorites.

If not the Caly as previously mentioned before I'd like to suggest ever green Benchmade Mini Grip...
:d

Agreed, although once I got really nuts, I gifted four Caly's in ZDP and kept my Sage models. I guess I have favorites, after all.

I just picked up a ZT566 recently and it has quickly become one of my favorite knives. Great ergonomics, great materials and made in the USA.

A couple weeks ago I picked up a Benchmade 551 which is also right up there on my favorites list. The handles are FRN and not G10 or metal though. Still an awesome knife. Again, great ergonomics, good blade steel and made in the USA.

Manix 2 coming in tomorrow, we shall see.

People over look having a glass breaker/strike point....I would look for something with a strike point, the gerber 06 auto comes to mind

Good suggestions, but most are not lightweight, which was the OP's first requirement listed. So OP needs to decide what is more important - G10/metal handles OR lightweight (because those two propositions don't go together well!).

If lightweight wins out, then Manix2 Lightweight:

If G10/metal handles wins out, then ZT 0566:

When you are through looking at 'toys' and are ready to get serious, get a Cold Steel Recon. If it's good enough for the US Military, it will be good enough for you.

If you want a knife to tote around and it is big and strong, you could get a Cold Steel Recon 1 for 'Special Price' at $31 right now. Build like a tank (3" blade).
If you want something easy to carry you could get a Spyderco Cat for around $46 (2.54" blade)

Moving up from there a Spyderco Delica 4 FFG in your favorite color is really perfect at around $64 and 2.85" blade. A Benchmade Mini Griptilian is a great knife at about $90.

These are within your budget and all are great knives.
