I normally post on other parts of this forum...but had a question...

I recently decided to pick up a one handed folder for EDC.
Normally I just carry my old "Case" Elephant toenail...both blades are sharp and do my daily stuff jus' fine....

But things being what they are ...it is time to carry another blade...

I have narrowed it down to a Hammond Cruiser from CRKT...or a Spyderco Military....

Both have longer blades...and better yet longer handles...

I am leaning toward the Spyderco ...

I have looked at a number of dealers on the net...but once in a while...the picture shows a blade with a strange profile ....the blade edge...looks liek somebidy made a goof...looks like a seconds blade to me. Mostly I see this on discounted knives...

I wonder..is this the case? DOes SPyderco sell seconds on the market...or are these companies somehow pulling something?

Who is a good dealer for Spyderco Products?
Thanks,
Shane

A good dealer for Spyderco's, or any knife, is www.newgraham.com Ecellent service, and very good pricing. As for the grinds, On the two Spyderco's I have, the grinds have been great, and the knives very sharp, right out of the box.

I will say that the Spyderco is leaps and bounds better than the CRK&T.

I will also second New Graham as a top notch dealer.

I don't believe Spyderco sells seconds on the market.

There really is no comparison. Just in blade steel, the Military's CPMS30V is vastly superior to the Cruiser's AUS-4 (I think this is a recent downgrade from AUS-6M).

Spyderco 2nds are only available at a once-a-year sale held at the Spyderco Factory Outlet in Colorado. 2nds are marked with a small notch in the top of the blade just behind the round opening hole.

I've really whittled down my collection of CRKT knives, but I still like them. That said, I would go for the Spyderco, I've used the money from selling my CRKT's to buy Spydies :D, and the Spydies are head and shoulders above CRKT, only my M16-13 and M21 come close.

i have a cruiser, it's aus-6 not aus-4 (but it's one of the first ones to hit the market.. maybe the new ones have been downgraded, i don't know).
it's not a bad knife at all, comfy, takes a great edge & holds it as well as one can expect from aus6, the lock is actually good, no play in any direction, doesn't fail any tourqing or spine whacking. pretty good bang for the buck.

that being said.. the military is 5 steps above the cruiser.. no room for comparison, the military is 100% superior in any aspect you can possibly think of :)

OK...the site I found this weird pic in is

www.emergency options.com

got to the spyderco "ripoff's" sectio...compare the pic of the military model, plain edge...to the non black, plain edge...looks like somebody spooched the grin closest to the bolster...right where the stop is...see what I mean?
maybe it's just a bad pic...

any way guys...always felt spyderco was a good choice...thanks...gonna go look at new graham now! :D

Get one from NGK. www.newgraham.com, best retailer from my vieuwpoint. They both have a CEO in this forum and in the Spyderco forum.

If you wan't to check out their track record, do a search.

See what I mean?

Starting at the tip the edge has a smooth line until it get further along...then all of a sudden it dips toward the spine right at the "BLADE STOP"...

Most of the pics I have seen show a smooth line all the way back...

Just thought it was wierd...

Gonna ask for the Spyderco Military for mty birthday....

Thanks Guys,
Shane

WEIRD - never seen one like that before. In addition to the blade grind, missing part of the choil and the lock isn't grooved. I'd say it's a ripoff, or maybe a bad refurb that someone did in their garage.

As far as source - see if you have a local shop first, then you know exactly what you're getting. Otherwise, New Graham has excellent service, and free bandaids!

Hi, Shane!

I've carried a Spyderco every day for most of the past...um...seven years, I think. Most often I've carried a Spyderco Native, which is a great size for both use and carry. I'm trying out a few other models since my Native was lost on a trip a few months ago, but Spydercos are absolutely wonderful knives.

As Bud Malstrom used to say at the old Bujinkan Atlanta Dojo,

Spyderco check!

:)

I think that's probably just a bad pic. It looks subtly distorted, though it's hard to tell because there's not much detail. The choil area stands out, but notice how the opening hole isn't perfectly circular? It looks like an image that's been stretched, scrunched and/or resized in some manner.

To me, the pictured Millie looks as if it had been "cut out" of some dark background. Probably not by hand, but by an automatic selection tool (magic wand) in a software. This explains IMO the strange edges all around the knife, on the blade itself, on it's spine ond the locking liner, as well as the odd shape of the opening hole. It's possible that the "missing part" of the blade seemed darker than the rest in the photograph (look at the pivot screw) and was deleted along with the background.

By the way, the lanyard hole in the pic is black - shouldn't you see the white background through it?

Hmm... I'll bet that ge2r is right. I don't know anything about image manipulation, but what ge2r says seems to make a lot of sense. I didn't notice the lanyard hole before, but it obviously doesn't match the white background in the pic.
