Thanks to all - I couldn't figure out EDC because I saw it used to describe fixed blades for sale. And one was over 8" long. I guess it's come to mean "a knife meant to be used" as opposed to a collectible wall hanger or something that fits in your pocket.
I spent my working life in data processing - the absolute worst place for acronyms and abbreviations. IMS, VTAM, ALC, COBOL, etc. Another confusing place was the military - CommCINCPac (Command center, Commander-in-Chief, Pacific for example). My favorite came from a new general taking over the post where I was stationed. After 2 weeks he issued a memo to all personal on post. It simply said "DUA". A few days later a slightly drunk 2nd lieutenant at the officer's club asked him what DUA stood for. The general replied "Don't Use Abbreviations".
I understand the need for shorthand expressions when texting messages, like IMHO or C U L8R, but, I'm 62 and old fashioned - I like to see things spelled out where we have room to do so.
I think hydrasmith is on the right track - a sticky for a glossary on BladeForum's home page would be useful for old pharts like me.
Thanks,
