EDCing an RC-4?

Alright guys (and gals) I need some advice here. My wife and I may soon be moving to a semi-remote ranch to serve as managers. I really want a nice fixed blade to edc in combination with my Leatherman Surge (will likely change to Super Tool 300 when released) while doing chores and tasks around the ranch and while riding horseback in the mountains. I've been thinking that the RC-3 might be just the ticket. However, I've been thinking lately that maybe I should save some $$, since money's tight, and just carry the RC-4 that I already have.

So, for those that regularly edc an RC-4, how does it work in that capacity? I was thinking that it may be a little thick to function in some utility tasks. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have both the RC-3 and the RC-4. RC-3 is my favorite But I have been ECDing the RC-4 for a week now. I think it would work for you.

RC4 along with an Izula...perfect combo in a lot of ways.

Agreed, but with the Izula, RC-4, and Leatherman, I'd need suspenders to keep my pants up. Plus my bosses would think I was some sort of Rambo with all thos sharp pointy things hanging on my belt. :D

It already sounds like you have a great knife, so EDC it everyday and see if it works for you. I bet you will see the advantages of a thicker utility knife. Once you have some experience with it, that will be the best deciding factor. Please let us know how it goes. If you want to try a similar knife as the RC3 but not too expensive, not a plug for another company, but you could try getting a Becker #11 with a 3 1/2 inch blade, try it and then decide if you want to get the RC3.

I don't find the RC4 that much different in carry....therefore, I like would choose the RC4 as well. I just prefer a 4" blade and don't find them obtrusive in carry.

Hi,

If you're living on a semi remote ranch, the RC-4 would be no problem at all.
With the kydex sheath is still is very unobtrusive, even for a large knife.
I carry it every day of my holiday without a problem on my belt, I don´t even notice it´s there! (Untill I need it, then it is the alpha dog ;) )
There some many options to carry the RC-4 that even if you don't like it on your belt you can easily attach it to your chest rig or backpack ;)

I think the RC-4 would fit you perfectly :D

Hey, I think I saw something like that in last month's copy of Tactical Horseman. :D

Maybe I could get some tactical MOLLE saddle bags and strap it on there.....

California sucks in terms of knife laws. We can't even legally EDC an Izula let alone an RC-4. Wow. This is probably the max I can EDC....

If I were in your situation, I would carry the RC-4 & see how you do with it. I think that you will be fine. Of course at some point, (pun intended) you will probably be getting some more RAT knives when $ allow.

I agree with the EDC'ing of the RC4. I have been using mine much more outside than my RC3 as of late. Love the blade on that 4.

In my experience every blade is different for every person. You're gonna need to test it out. But from what i see, the rc4 would be an outstanding edc blade.

I carried the RC4 once for EDC. Too big (unless you dont care if people see it). I'm EDCing the Izula.

I carry my RC-4 in the ruller pocket of my carpenter style pants, all you can see is the top of the handle, works great. I also ordered the boot clip and installed it, so I can carry it on my belt too if I need to.

I really like the size of the RC-4 and as long as it didn't interfere with your horseback riding, I would stick with it. To me it's a great general purpose knife.

I carry an RC-4 and a Letherman Charge TTi every single day. If you see me, doesn't matter where I am, I have those two tools on me. I think the RC-4 would do you just fine. Like many here, I own a kajillion knives. I prefer to EDC the RC-4.
