ARCLITE and EDC in D2!
OK folks,
I've been tight lipped about this one, but I had to. AG RUSSELL asked us to make the EDC and the ARCLITE in one of his favorite steels, D2. Naturally, this is an exclusive to AG RUSSELL KNIVES, and he wanted us to remain silent until he broke the news. Well, AG has done his first mailing regarding the knives. It was announced first to members of his AG RUSSELL KNIFE COLLECTOR'S CLUB, but it will be avialible to the general public shortly. I will say that the members of the collector's club get a SWEET discount, so ya'll might want to look into joining. AG's site is....

www.agrussell.com

On to the knives! Not only is AG a big fan of D2, the designer of these 2 great knives, Darrel Ralph, is also. Darrel's choice is CRUCIBLE's AIRDI-150 D2. This is a very clean and consistant version of D2 availible from our neighbors @ CRUCIBLE STEEL. We worked with CRUCIBLE and Darrel to refine our heat treatment of AIRDI-150 D2, until everyone was extremely happy. This stuff is awesome. We are are applying a "stonewash finish" on the EDC blades and a scotchbrite/satin finish on the ARCLITE. They came out very nice. These knives are truly for the "knifenuts" out there, or should I say, in here ;)

We thank AG for helping make this happen! :)

I like both the design and feel of EDC....but somehow hasn't gotten it (i wonder why???). Now that it's gonna be fabricated from D2........wow.....i'm absolutely DETERMINE to get it this time!!:D

Thanx Will.....for breaking this news to us......ahhhhhhh....i can't wait no more! :)

Will,

Any idea what the price will be for either of these through Russell? The both sound really nice, particularly the fixed blade. Anymore aces up your sleeve?

Being a huge Arc Lite fan, I ordered two. AG wrote in the KCC newsletter that the D-2 ARCLITEs are made from 3/32" stock, is that correct Will?

A little cord wrap, and these are going to be awesome cutting tool values. I'm jacked.

Steve,
They actually measure .120", same as the standard ARCLITE. Slight typo on AG's part. Also, a typo on my part, the EDC's have a stonewash finish, but the ARCLITE's have a scotchbrite/satin finish. I'll edit my post above. Thanks for the interest....tell us how they cut!

Well, crapola. I was kind of psyched about the 3/32" blade, and comparing it to a 1/8" version in D2M. That's why I ordered it. He needs to get his details straight on that page:mad:

Make an ALB in D2 w/G-10 to appease me:p

Does it look like the pic on AG's site, or is it marked D2? I assumed the pic was of a 420HC version.

OwenM,
Ease off the caffine, those figures are AWFULLY close;) I really think you are gonna like it the way it is. BTW, DDR will make you a D2 ALB w/ G10. I ordered mine with carbon fiber:D

Thanks for being a customer!

A CAMILLUS KNIFE IN .......D-2!!!! Wow! Slobber, Slobber, Drool!!!!
If only I wasn't laid up now .........Darn! Every knifenut fiber I have is vibrating.

Does D2 rust easy? If the arclite is worn under a shirt it will be exposed to sweat. Is the regular arclite more rust resistant?

My ALL(ittle??) has CF, too..:)
I'm just trying to be budget-conscious:p

Just ordered one myself...few questions, however, that Will or perhaps A.G. could shed some light on:

1) Are they currently in stock and shipping or are they a future, "shipping soon" item?

2) Will they be identified as "D2" in some way as to differentiate them from 420 Arclites?

Thanks in advance.

I've placed an order yesterday and the lady said the usual "allow 10-12 days" I asked if those were on backorder, she said no. As usual they tell when the item is backordered, though sometimes not ;)
Hopefully it's not.

D-2 is approximately as stain resistant as ATS-34 in my opinion. The 420HC standard ARCLITEs are much more stain resistant.

I am a pretty sweaty individual, and I carry a D-2 neck knife very regularly with no rust problems. On the other hand, I have heard of people who made the 420HC ARCLITE rust. Differences in body chemistry I guess.

D-2: probably four of five times the edge holding. 420HC: four or five times the rust resistance. You gotta' figure out what works for you.

Well, I guess they are (or were) in stock…I ordered one on Monday and it arrived today ;). I'm very pleased with the package; Camillus has done another excellent job. These Arclites are marked differently than the standard 420HC versions…instead of the customary imprint (ARCLITE, CUDA U.S.A., DARREL RALPH DESIGN) on the front of the knife over the first "finger groove", this information is etched on the blade; the reverse side of the blade is etched with "A.G. Russell, D-2 60 Rc". The knife has the same extremely sharp out-of-the-box edge that I've found on all my recent Camillus purchases…since it's D-2 it should hold that edge for a pretty long time :D. In all fairness, I haven't had any problems with edge retention on my 420HC Arclite…420HC is probably a perfectly reasonable choice for this type of knife. Nonetheless, I'm delighted to be able to get one my favorite designs executed in one of my favorite steels. Thanks to A.G. and Will & the crew at Camillus for bringing this project to market!

My Arclite D2 knives arrived today. That knife is a real sweetheart !!!!!! And, they are almost giving them away !

I don't know if I can handle all this excitement. The NY Custom Knife Show tomorrow and now this??
