Eddie Bauer continues to top my list as far as quality outdoor clothing that fits me and my style well, at superb prices. They just released their Heritage Collection, bushcrafting and rustic outdoor adventure clothing. I'm stoked, the canvas expedition bush shirt, the safari hunter's jacket and the bomber jacket look freakin sweet!

I'm not sold on Eddie Bauer, but always try to be open minded. That said, I Think many companies specialize in different areas.

I like Marmot for soft shells. Mountain Hardware for fleece and Arc'teryx for my Rain-shells. Although REI has some great EVent shells now too.

In terms of quality control and overall performance I don't think Eddie Bauer is a top competitor, but perhaps they are just in a different bracket or I am missing something. I would like to be illuminated on the benefits of Eddie Bauer. Especially if it saves me some cash.

Eddie is the company that owns the pattent for waffle down fill... they were the original inventors and the company that first produced them. Everything from their jeans to their teeshirts last a good long time, and are extremely comfortable. They're just a good, no-BS adventure travel and outdoor sporting company, I have nothing to complain about them. I just picked up a nice thick wool sweater for 20 bucks last week, I've worn it 4 out of the last 7 days I like it so much. Their First Ascent line is their super high performance line, they came out with that this winter-it was meant to play with all the top dogs in the alpine climbing industry. I have a B9 parka on the way, I can't wait to get it.

Been a fan of EB when they had a sport shop back in the early eightys. If you shop the outlet stores and buy off season you can get some really gooood deals. Just picked up a down vest for $15, regular price $59. Last year got a 700 fill mountain jacket wil fur trimed hood for $40--that one was lucky since I bought it in March or April. i like the new line that coming too!!

When I lived in NYC, we had a couple of Eddie Bauer shops available, and I always liked spending money there. I never had a problem with fit or quality. Of course, buying in person helps. And I was able to take advantage of sales, being in the area.

Eddie Bauer is one of the few places I can buy normal rise jeans with a 40" waist and a 36" inseam.

I recently gave a 40 year old Bauer Goose down vest that I had outgrown to a guy in our church that works outdoors. It is still in good shape and going strong.

I love their stuff, though not all of it fits me well. I was there the other day and both the David Scott Parka and the B9 Parka were marked down from $220 to $60! Gotta love clearance.

yup I snagged the B9, i can't wait to get it. It's already out of season but for next year it will be my beater, I'll save my Canada Goose Alberta for special occasions. I also picked up the 20 dollar flannel shirt and a couple other things while I was at it.

I don't know being a teen in the early nineties surrounded by a lot of yuppies I guess Eddie Bauer kind of became a mall brand to me. Kind of like TNF now. (Not saying that TNF doesn't put out good stuff, I have a lot of it, just that they've also put out some pretty low level stuff and are kind of saturated in the market at this point where i live.) I'm just now realizing that Eddie Bauer is putting out decent stuff. I will admit though that I've had the same cultural/cerebral issue with L.L. Bean and a couple of others. Probably my loss.

i like eddie bauer but my all time favorite for hard use wear is FIlson in the cold and kuhl when its hot

I buy a lot of EB when it's on clearance, but I have to be careful with their shirts - every so often they change the cut and it no longer fits, so trying things on in the store is pretty critical.
I would love to have the chance to try some Filson one of these days, but again - it's going to be a "try it before buying it" kind of thing.
Another brand I've had good luck with, especially when getting their gear on clearance is Duluth Trading - I've got some excellent deals out of them and the clothing lasts pretty good.

Eddie Bauer does have some great products, but I stopped buying from them when they buckled under PETA's demands that they stop selling fur.

+1 on the Arc'teryx shells. I just got a Theta SV. No comparison to other Gore-Tex Pro Shells. I thought that a "Pro Shell" was a "Pro Shell". Maybe it's the laminate. Whatever the difference is, it is definitely noticeable. I recently got an Outdoor Research Mentor shell, again with the Gore-Tex Pro shell, and the Arc'teryx blows it away. The Theta that I was able to get a hold of was still made in Canada. The OR was made in China.
The Arc'teryx was very expensive, but I'd trust it to keep me dry in extreme conditions for an extended period of time.

Don't forget buying online!!

It seems they are at least coming a little back to reality. I'm pretty stoked about the heritage stuff too. They are using all their old patterns. You don't see Abercrombie or Banana Republic bringing their old camping stuff back. Hats off to Eddie!

Note to the teenagers: SEE I TOLD YOU PLAID WAS COMING BACK!!!

Yea i used to own a lot , still have a couple shirts.... but i dont know what happend.. but there prices shot up, the quality went down , and the out door clothing suffered. so i moved on and found stuff that fits me even better.

im glad there bring back some of the old stuff that made me a fan in the first place.

yup I mentioned first ascent in my second post. Unfortunately you are correct in saying that all that wearing TNF proves nowadays is that you are a yuppie... Especially here in Boise. It's all made in china nowadays anyway. I actually use the crap out of my TNF stuff because most of it has a lifetime warranty. I was a huge fan of Arcteryx when I was in the military, I have a covert sweater and wool baselayer from about 5 years ago-unfortunately now I can't justify the prices. If I wanted to spend 200 dollars on a sweater It'd be canada goose or dale of norway. It just seems like EB consistantly has awesome sales, like the 60 dollar b9 jacket or the 20 dollar ragg wool sweater I just bought, and now with this heritage collection I'm pretty excited.

I have an Eddie Bauer jacket I wear everyday, warm and comfy but going on 5 years now, may be time to retire it.

For outdoor stuff I really like Helly Hansen, but I would love to be able to afford arcteryx gear.

If it fits and you like it then I guess that is good. However, if they are "consistently hav[ing] awsome sales" then the sales really are not that awsome. The regular prices really are that bad.

I've never been in to an Eddie Bauer store, but about half of the camping stuff at Target is Eddie Bauer branded, so I have associated EB with low quality big box store stuff. I am probably wrong, but my prejudices are my own.
