I received a Buck Special as a gift this past Christmas. After opening the package and trying the edge, I found that it wouldn't even begin to shave hair off my arm. It would not cut paper, or even grab when I ran the edge across my thumb(I know that's not safe, but it gives an idea of how well it will cut in a flesh medium). I then tried sharpening the knife on a Medium Arkansas stone moving onto a fine, but it didn't go any good. This is a really good looking knife, the fit and finish are perfect(especially the polish, the handle, guard and butt are so well polished they feel like one piece) and I almost dread using for hunting. I especilly dread having to regrind the blade to a different angle.Has anyone else had the same problem, or was my knife a fluke? Also, any tips on sharpening the new edge grind would be helpful.

Doesn't sound like the Edge 2000...perhaps you have an older model. What is your tang stamp symbol?

You can send in the knife with $5 for the Edge2000. I just did this for my son's knife and I made confetti with a magazine. Sharpest knife I ever seen.

I personally use DMT diamond sharpeners, just fine and x-tra fine. They work really well.

Thanks Greg, I'll check out the tang. I don't think it's an older one as the package had the Edge 2000 symbol. But I'll still give it a look. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I just recently bought a Buck 442 (new and improved BuckLite) with the partially-serrated Edge2000 blade.
It is extremely sharp! Now I'll see how long it can keep it's edge, and how easy it is to re-sharpen.

allenC, did you get basic black or one of the new translucent colors? They look really cool in the pictures.

I did'nt know it came in translucent colors.
I have only seen the black plastic handle with bead-blasted blade.
I was referring to the single-blade lockback.
Does it come in translucent colors?

C. Mapp,
Forget the $5.00 and send the knife to us. It should have been sharp right out of the box. Let us make it right for you by sending it in to my attention at:

Mr. Houser

I appreciate the offer to handle my knife. Just curious as to how I go about sending it to you, mainly if I should insure it, and if so, what do you feel the value should be. I doubt the parents kept a receipt from the purchase. Thanks again. One more reason why I'll go with Buck.

If you ship via UPS, you are automatically insured for up to $100.00. That would be my preference. The USPS seems to think priority mail means within 9-10 days, but if you want to ship that way insurance is only a few cents extra, get $50.00 or so, it won't really matter.

C. Mapp,
I'd go with Mr. Folsom's advice. It would be a good idea to send a copy of this thread with the knife to jog my memory. Don't worry about the reciept, its not necessary.

Take care,
