I have a question. When did Edge 2000 start? I always figured year 2000, but ran into a bit of a puzzle.

Have had this clam pack laying around here for years and years unopened.

Was no identifiers on it as to the age of the knife. Lots of words on the cardboard about edge 2000 so I figured sometime after that.

So, in my quest to clean up my man cave and some of this accumulated hoard, I decided it was time to open this clammie.

Did, and the knife is a year 1999. I expected 2000 or newer. Was close I guess..

So that lead to the question about Edge 2000. And this year 1999.

I love the distressed curved bottom sheath with the mountains on the flap.

Biggest surprise was the flashlight worked when I installed the batteries.

Raining here, so a fun day with knives...

From what I could find it started in mid 1999.

Thanks, that would account for this 1999 knife.

And fwiw, the knife, sheath stink to high heaven from being sealed in this clammie with the rubber flashlight the last 15 years. or so.
My little room smells like the tire dept at a Sams store.:D

I would agree with the stated date, perhaps even 1998. But a full hollow grind started in 1981 and this is essentially the same. DM

My only contribution is that it is discussed in one of the Buck catalogs. I did not go look which one on the BCCI website. 300

Being one of the sharpening impaired, it looks to me as though when this occurred Buck changed the sharpening angle some? Went to thinner edge, if I'm getting that right.

So for me, who uses a Sharpmaker, still just stay with the 20 degree per side angles?

I really need to learn how to freehand. My father tried many times but I usually just create another butter knife.

Joe, yes, your correct. They took the full hollow grind of 1981 thinner. As their tests using the KATRA machine proved this edge cut better/ easier and it does.
I went back and pulled out many of the models I have on hand to determine the year this grind began and found that the 1993 & 94 blades on the Buck lights are ground thinner. These cut like wow! I noticed it most on cutting apples, cheese, peeling potatoes, items with a tight surface. This blade severs it with less effort. This is the time frame when the Selectors were discontinued and the laminated wood began use. Look thru your models and see if you can find this grind. DM
