Hey guys,

I know this has been discussed before and probably plenty of times but I cant find it in my searches.

What is the blade edge angle on 440c blades?

Thanks in advance.

I sharpen my old ones to about 20 degrees ,usually it will last the longest for all around cutting and skinning chores.

Try the trick of marking the edge with a sharpie. If you have a sharpener that tells degrees, lightly try it to see which one will take the sharpie off evenly.

On my Lansky and a new 110 edge, I believe the 25 will do it.

On the back of an unopened 2005 110 clammie, old edge shows 35 to 50.

New edge2x (2000) shows 26 to 32.

Hope it was what you were looking for. Surprises me that those angles are only on the 2005 clammie. The 2002 one nor any of the others show it.

Maybe I have "collectables" :rolleyes::rolleyes::D

Yes, divide by two for the real angle.

Is that right? I flunked math.

;)

Actually, I bet it's not that precise, but fairly close.

I free-hand, so ...... who cares?

Yes. Then those sharpening device angles are not real true either . So, I'd use the magic marker trick to find the angle that matches and you'll be good . Doesn't matter if it says 15* its just what ever matches . Buck used more obtuse angles back then, now more acute . DM

I have 2 bay purchases that I am unsure of what the previous owners have done. My buddy here at work has a Smith(lanskyesque) and I may reprofile it, so I was deciding which angle would be best to use.(2 different choices, but not sure what degrees they are set)

I have a 2-dot 112 which originally had a rather 'thick' edge on it. I ended up convexing the edge using wet/dry sandpaper on top of my strop block. Worked out beautifully. Wish I'd done this a LONG time ago, it's a cardboard slicing machine now.

For a while in 2000, Buck included a coupon with new knives to send back an old model and have it re-ground to the "Edge 2000" for $5. I sent in my 2 dot 110, and now I lightly dress it on my Spyderco Sharpmaker to keep it hair-popping sharp.

If my memory is correct my old 1972 model 110 that I used and abused for over 25 years didn't come from the factory with an edge as fine as the new ones do nowadays. Thanks to David Martins keen eye at the Las Cruces Show I was able to pick up another 110 to replace that knife for a price I could afford. She's a little beat up but the blade is still pretty good.I still have the old sheath and I believe this is a 72 model.
