What angle should I set my 710 in D2 to?

I was thinking 20 per side (40 inc). Would 17 per side work out? I've never had any experience with D2 so your thoughts and advice would be nice

I'm on a lansky.

I think you could get a very usable edge at 15 degrees if you wanted it. some people say you can go even lower but i find that too much past 15 and the edge gets impractical. Unless you're using the blade to chop wood or something anything in the 15-20 range would be useful. you'll have to tell us exactly what you use the blade for to get a good recommendation though.

also, i remember reading or seeing that the lanksy measurements were way off on most blades. it'd be pretty easy to take a quick measure with a protractor or do some easy math with a ruler and that way you could know what angle you're really sharpening at.

D2 can start to chip below 30 degrees inclusive so think of that as the lowest possible angle. 17 per side would be a good choice.

Based on your two angle choices, 17 and 20, I am guessing you are using a lansky clamp system?

Also I might guess that you have the extra coarse diamond hone. I would caution you to be careful with that hone, the carbides can tear out when you start apexing.

I still take mine down to 15 per side, and it is great, but I wouldn't go past that.
