Edge angle on a Scrapyard 711

I have read that on the 711's the edge angle is relatively steep, has anyone re profiled their 711's edge to make for a better all around camp knife, food prep and slicer? I saw a video where someone moved the edge back on a 511 and it was very nicely done but wasn't sure if the same should or could be done on the 711 because of the thickness. The person used an edge pro apex and that 511 was WICKED sharp.

I convexed the edge on a 911 and a 511 to thin the edges out a little and remove the shoulder. The edge on the 911 (which I believe is the same thickness as the 711) was very thick, even for a chopper and would take quite a bit of work to make it much of a slicer.

I wouldnt necessarily need a slicer but better slicing capability without losing strength for batoning and rare chopping would be great.

In that case, convexing the edge and getting rid of that shoulder may be exactly what you are looking for. On a side note, both of the knives I convexed took extremely sharp edges. The 511 was the first knife that I got to whittle hair.

Did you do the convexing by hand with sandpaper and a mousepad? I just suck with angles

I actually used a Work sharp but a lot of people have luck with the sandpaper/ mousepad technique. There are videos on youtube that show how to do it. Just remember, light pressure and a marker can be your friend. Also, there are lots of custom makers on this site that would be happy to convex the edge for you, I am sure.

Thank you for all the input, it is greatly appreciated.
