Edge Angle

Well, I've been EDCing a Queen in D2 lately, and I reprofiled the edge to 50-degrees inclusive. I reprofile all my slippies to this, as with a decent polish (1000 grit) I get a shaving edge. However, all my other slippies are 420HC, while the queen is D2. Now, my question is...is it worth it to make the edge angle smaller? I've got cutting performance aplenty, but will I notice a great difference in edge-holding compared to 420HC?

Um, I'd think it would be a good idea to bring the angle down. 25 degrees a side seems very obtuse. I think you would even be allright with something like a 30 degree inclusive angle, especially with a good steel like D2.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Man you are so damned right!!!!!

It is not that hard to get an 50° edge sharp but to keep it. The first cut in an abrasive and you will go and use an opinel, because they are cutting even dull.

That´s the way i am going now, after trying so much varieties of large angles.

I feel fine with something around 30° too. That is an angle that keeps cutting even when it has dulled down a bit.

There is a scientific thing about dulling saying, that the V edge dulls to a parabel. The larger the angle, the faster it will come down to that parabel where it will not cut right. A smaller angle will take longer to dull down to its angle - specific paabel.

That has nothing to do with the edge holding properties of steel grades.
