Edge ding on Buck

I have a Buck 187 that I have used for 2 or 3 years and noticed the other day that the edge has a couple of tiny dings in it. My question is do any of you have an easy way to remove them? I have carried it almost every day and have never needed to sharpen it. Should I send it to Buck and be without for a long time or fix it my self?

Depending on the size of the dings, a good sharpening should be able to remove them, or at least minimize them. You might want to post this in the Buck forum under Makers and manufacturers and see what they say.

Buck charges 6 dollars for a resharp. That pretty well pays for the shipping back to you. It usually takes only a couple of weeks to get it back.

If they truly are tiny dings, I'd skip sending it in and just sharpen it myself. Other than getting rid of the dings, your overall cutting performance will probably go up significantly.

I'd send it back to Buck. First, in my experience their sharpening service is quite prompt (with the added bonus that they usually buff up the knife, polishing away minor scratches, etc.). Secondly, their Edge 2000 treatment renders a great edge and edge geometry.

Just sharpen the knife as normal, the dings will go away eventually. You only need to remove them all at once if the performance is being seriously effected, otherwise it is a waste of steel.
