Hey folks,
I'm trying to find out how to properly and easily smooth out a pesky edge ding in a traditional v grind edged satin tankbuster. It's never been used or resharpened, it's just one of those tiny micro dings that you can feel carefully running a fingernail over it and it catches.
I'm clueless about sharpening, but would stropping with a compound be enough to do the job? I've heard stropping in general works well with Busses(convex and v grind edges) and I was thinking of investing in some kind of a strop setup. I'm Pretty clueless about strops and which color compounds to use as well :)
Any ideas?
Also ,would taking the knife out and just doing some chopping do the trick??! The longer I own these Busses, the less I want to safekeep them like a collectible and the more I want to see what they are really capable of :)
thanks.
I'll check back ;)

Get yourself a butchers steel or a long smooth shafted screw driver. That should take care of the little buggers.

And yes, chopping some hardwood may take them out too.

Get out and flog it senseless! :)

I would guess that a good stropping would take care of it. I would also suggest beating that burr into submission.

Stropping and Beating ...................hehehehe.

Don't use the typical grooved butchers steel, but the smooth kind. Since that is less common, that is why we recommend a long screwdriver shaft. You can clamp the handle in a vise, and use the steel to stroke both sides of the edge with firm pressure. Another option is to use the top edge of a car window.

It is amazing how good this trick works!!!

Yes with INFI. But interestingly enough I tried this trick a couple weeks ago on a small wrinkle on the edge of S90V... it chipped out instead of smoothing it. Nothing I can't sharpen out but it surprised me. On paper, the S90V should be superior to infi, but the grass isn't always greener... Infi is a great all around steel.
