Hey guys, the edge on my trail hawk is alright, I keep reading about a convex edge on this site. I have access to anything I need, I want an edge that can stand up to alot of abuse, I dont want one thats razor sharp, as i have heard it does not stand up to hard abuse as well.

Is convex the way to go, and if so how do i put a convex blade profile on a hawk.

Thanks for your time.

Tim

You don't really need much to get a convex edge on an axe/hatchet/hawk. It's generally the preferred kind of profile for such a tool, and traditionally accomplished freehand using things like files and stones.

Agreed.
Dont overthink it. Its a chopper and will be sharpened fairly often.
Use that little belt sander you pictured, they work great. Thats what I use and you can put a great edge on them.

Im sure you know this, so dont take it as an insult.
But on those type of belt sanders, NEVER throw away the used belts. You can REALLY work a edge down great with a worn out belt.
