Been reading this forum a lot here as of late. Seems that thin scandi or convex edges are prefered here in an outdoors/wilderness/bushcraft/survival type knives. Does anyone have experience with a chisel grind for such a knife? I mean chisels are made to shape wood. Seems like the would make an ideal woodsman's knife. And pretty easy to maintain the edge IMHO. Also seems like it would be made for notching and things like that. What do you guys think of a chisel grind for working with wood? And for general use in the great outdoors all together.

I think the problem is going to come when you change to a different hand position. Chisels only work well in one direction. Have you ever tried to flip a chisel over and use it? I agree with being able to maintain the edge, but for the above mentioned reasons I don't think it is a popular choice.

I'm not crazy about chisel grinds. As indicated above, they really force a restricted angle during a cut and limit they way a knife is held. I have a serrated knife with a chisel grind and it seems okay for its purpose though.
