If I see one more 'knife in a film' thread, honestly... After this Gollum/LOR thing, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave serious consideration to handing out Oscars for say 'Best Blade in a Supporting Role'.

Must be a generational thing. Anyway...

You pick up some idea about the various grinds - flat, hollow, convex, double and so on. Can anyone give a brief rundown on the main ones used - what they are and the pros and cons sort of thing?

Also, how much if anything does the above depend on things like blade shape and steel type?
