Edge Holding an Update

If you read my post on this subject, you may remember I wondered out loud if the "new" harder blade was better at edge holding than the "older" HT.
Well I did my own heat treat, rather than send it in to a HT provider. I just didn't want to part with beloved Micarta Insingo for a month or more. I was pretty sure I could do it because I've done hundreds of blades of my own. :)There was a bit of pause of course, this is a Sebenza after all.

It's been carried and used for more than a couple of weeks now. I used it as I always do and can say for sure, I like the edge holding better, and have to use the Sharpmaker less. The difference is not dramatic, but I would do it again.

I put a satin hand sand finish on the blade. :thumbup:I got to get another one of these Insingos, CF perhaps.

See the color on the jimping.

It looks nice, you are a brave man! What is the shapmaker test? So are you going to run a controlled test to put numbers to the improvement?

How often do you sharpen a knife? I ask because you say you did this one just a couple of weeks ago and can already tell you are using a Sharpmaker less. Not being a smark@$$, that's a legit question.

What was your heat treatment protocols out of curiosity?

Aim for secondary hardening?

How did you find the annealing of S35VN?

Thanks!
I posted this to acknowledge the move CRK made in increasing the hardness of their blades. Good move!

I usually use the Sharpmaker once a week, with stropping to keep it up now and then, now it's been over two weeks with no need for the Sharpmaker. Not scientific, but good for me.

A little confused... Are you comparing the mid-2013 to present day supposed harder heat treat to blades manufactured before that date, or are you heat treating your own blade and comparing that to CRK's heat treat?

It almost seems like you are avoiding answering any questions posted in this thread.

Sorry, I find this confusing also.

I thought the same. You posted about this...why not just share when people have questions?

I agree, I've found the same to be true. Much less sharpening, seems to keep that working edge for a long time.

Went from 57.5 to 59.5 on the blade I've used the last couple years. Would be nice to know your before and after, oh well.
