Hello everyone I am on the newer side of collecting knives. I have been purchasing mostly folders nothing to extravagant just production stuff. I really use most everything I buy with the exception of some of my tactical purchases I hope to not have to use them :) I would like some recommendations on a sharpening system for a noobie. I am currently using the manual work sharp and although it does put an edge back on the blade it just feels like its destroying the proper edge if that makes any sense. Most of what I carry have blade steel like AUS8, CTS BD1, S30V and 154CM I really do hard use these tools cutting cardboard, 1" nylon reinforced rubber hose that has had petrol and some cases caustic soda running through them. So I tend to dull them pretty quick. Any tips from the knowledge base here would be awesome! I want to take care of my knives and keep them sharp but want to learn the right way.

You can start with the spyderco sharpmaker like most people do and gradually work your way up to some stones. You can start playing with the angles on some cheap knives first untill you have enough experience and confidence to sharpen your other knives.

I have been looking at the Spyderco unit. Thanks for the input think I will give it a shot. might post some pics of what I destroy practicing :P
