ive always carried emersons but due to the price of some of them ive always been hesitant to use them really hard . lately ive just thrown all of the babying out the window and dont care anymore . i work in pest control a little and do other hands on work. lately ive really put my cqc8 through some serious use. the blade by no means looks good anymore but the performance it has given is a sight to behold . scraping termite tubes off walls , cutting lots of metal wire , prying and smashing wood scraps apart{to find active termites}, cutting lots of rope and paracord and limbing small trees/ bushes. i realize ive had a phobia for years now , fear of fouling the precious edge on my knives . i dont know what you could call this phobia but im over it now thank goodness . if i foul the edge i sharpen it as best i can and move on . if the blade gets nicked up real good , or the coating comes off to bare metal ,whooptie - freakin -doo . no more worrying about keeping a pristine edge . just so its sharp . amen. any feedback would be cool. :D

I have the same problem with my newer or even more collectible Emersons as well as my knives from other companies. After a few months of owning some of them I am less skittish with them. I use my CQC-7 that I've had for over six months pretty hard. My HD-7 has just barely started seeing some serious use only after I bought a second one to keep somewhat pristine. I think I am getting a little better although I have never been one to use a tool for something it wasn't intended for, so my knives will probably never be used to pry with or cut metal wire.

i have knives i will probably never use, but all my emersons get used. some more than others. through some trial i have found the 13 to be my favorite, the 7 next in line.

consider the dings as natural serrations. Thats why you buy in pairs one for use and one for show. I buy in groups of 4 or 5 one for use one to back that one upif it fails or breaks one for display and one or two to sell years after they are discontinued and the price rockets through the roof.

What the heck. There's no point having a knife and not using it. The precious ones stay at home, the bruiser is in my pocket. An EDC should be an all around blade and should be put through reasonable use. I stopped worrying about scratches and dings. As for saving the factory edge for that "special occassion", even a well used edge can still do a lot of damage.

yeah i quit babying the finish on my hk usp 45 compact too. lota holster draws will do it , looks like a tool now . ive got an old spec-war that looks ROUGH but it still performs like its supposed to . wish i could post pics of the guns and knives that have seen more serious use.

I stopped baby-ing them both.:)

i usually carry something for SD and something else for utility, ie right now a EKI CQC12 (SD) and a spyderco delica SE (utility), serves to keep the SD knife sharp, not scuffed up, & saves some wear and tear on it, i suppose i'm anal lol.

rainburn, that sure is a nice p7 ya got there . good combo too. sifu1a i hearya on the SD and utility combination . alot of times ill carry my becker necker somewhere on me but not anymore ! just the 8 now , im lettin my hair down i guess. that usually means ill probably buy another eki soon .

Went fishing the other day. All i had was a the mini commander. Boy did I have a hard time gutting the fish with it. Shoulda brought a spydie with me or a small fixed blade with a thin profile. Next time.
